Film News Roundup: ‘Tom and Jerry’ Movie Moves Forward to 2020

In today’s film news roundup, Warner Bros. is giving an earlier date to “Tom and Jerry,” “Inside the Rain” gets distribution, Lionsgate is launching a crime drama, and the Napa Valley Film Festival annnounces its honorees.

Release Dates

Warner Bros. has moved its live-action hybrid comedy “Tom and Jerry” forward by four months to Dec. 23, 2020.

The cat and mouse story, directed by Tim Story, was initially slated for release on April 16, 2021. The studio said Friday that it will fill that slot with a yet-to-be titled “event” film.

Tom and Jerry” stars Chloe Grace Moretz, Michael Pena, Ken Jeong, Jordan Bolger and Pallavi Sharda. The story centers on Tom the cat and Jerry the mouse getting kicked out of their home and relocating to a fancy New York hotel where Moretz’s character is an employee who will lose her job if she can’t evict Jerry.

Indican Pictures Nabs ‘Crepitus’; Aafca, TCM Launch Motown Films Showcase; Joe Berlinger To Be Honored At 22nd Arpa Film Festival – Film Briefs

Indican Pictures has picked up director Haynze Whitmore’s horror film, Crepitus, for domestic theatrical, digital, and DVD distribution. Starring Eve Mauro and horror vet Bill Moseley, the film follows seventeen-year-old Elizabeth and her younger sister Sam who are thrust into terrifying circumstances when they are forced to move into their deceased Grandfather’s house. Frightened beyond belief, they learn horrible things about their family history. Never mind the ghosts in the house, there is something far worse that takes an interest in them … a cannibalistic clown named Crepitus (Moseley). Chalet Lizette Brannan, Caitlin Williams, and Lance Paul co-star. Music Documentary

Abramorama is partnering with Shakey Pictures and Reprise / Warner Records to release the Neil Young documentary “Mountaintop.”

The movie, which chronicles the making of Young and Crazy Horse’s studio album “Colorado,” will open in North America on Oct. 22 and in Europe and South American on Nov. 8. Young produced using his pseudonym Bernard Shakey, marking his 13th collaboration with Abramorama dating back to “Greendale,” and Jonathan Demme’s trilogy.

Koch Media continues its deep dive into the world of Doctor Who this September with the release of The Doctors: The Paul McGann Years, a two-disc set presenting the definitive look at the era of The Eighth Doctor.

Presented by Sophie Aldred, Robert Dick and the voice of the Daleks Nicholas Briggs, the set includes six documentaries which feature in-depth interviews with Paul McGann (the Eighth Doctor), Daphne Ashbrook (Grace Holloway), Yee Jee Tso (Chang Lee), Eric Roberts (The Master), Philip Segal (Producer) and Geoffrey Sax (Director), as well as a special introduction by Nicholas Briggs and Producer Keith Barnfather.

When a films starts with a simple narrative explaining the movie or what is about to happen, with the text showing on screen, I always have a quick smile. There’s some classic horror that has started this way and I think I mostly remember it from the begining of The Blair Witch Project. Because of that my hopes are always a little higher when I see this, for some reason I forget the dozens, possibly hundreds of movies that I’ve seen with this opening that haven’t been so great. As you’ve probably guessed, Clinton Road starts this way.
