David Allen was born on October 22, 1944 in Los Angeles, California, USA as David William Allen. He is known for his work on The Howling (1981), Willow (1988) and Ghostbusters II (1989). He was married to Donita Woodruff. He died on August 16, 1999 in Burbank, California.

David loved classical music. He played piano. He had a B.A in English literature. When he died he was trying to complete a movie called The Primevals. It is an out growth of his original film project called Raiders of the Stone Ring, which was only a trailer. He was inspired to pursue stopmotion animation by the film King Kong (1933). He also directed a short film entitled The Magic Treasure.
Following college Allen found gainful employment at Clokey Studios doing animation for the TV shows "Gumby" and "Davey and Goliath.".
Became interested in stop motion animation after seeing a re-release of "King Kong" at the age of six.
