Quinta Brunson to Star in HBO Max Comedy With Put Pilot Commitment
Quinta Brunson is set to star in a single-camera comedy series that has received a put pilot commitment at streamer HBO Max, Variety has learned.

Brunson co-wrote the untitled half-hour project with Michelle Nader in addition to starring. It is about ambitious millennial flying up the ladder at a media startup company who is unexpectedly tasked with running the newly hired, PR crisis–averting team of diverse writers made up of green Internet newbies.

Nader will serve as executive producer and showrunner with Danielle Stokdyk also executive producing. Brunson will serve as co-executive producer. Warner Bros. Television, where Nader is currently under an overall deal, will produce.

Brunson recently appeared on HBO’s “A Black Lady Sketch Show.” She is also known for her videos produced for BuzzFeed and her digital shorts “The Girl Who Has Never Been on a Nice Date.” She, Jermaine Fowler, and Larry Wilmore set up

HBO Max has given a put pilot commitment to a half-hour single-camera millennial workplace comedy from Quinta Brunson (A Black Lady Sketch Show), who stars; Michelle Nader (2 Broke Girls); and Warner Bros. TV, where Nader is under a deal.

Co-written by Brunson and Nader, who also will serve as showrunner, the Untitled Quinta Brunson Project stars Brunson as an ambitious millennial flying up the ladder at a media startup company, who is unexpectedly tasked with running the newly hired, PR crisis–averting diversity team made up of green Internet newbies.

Nader will executive produce with her producing partner Danielle Stokdyk. Brunson will co-executive produce. Warner Bros. TV is the studio.

Brunson stars on HBO’s A Black Lady Sketch Show, which has been renewed for a second season. Brunson became known in 2014 when her series, The Girl Who’s Never Been on a Nice Date, went viral on YouTube and Instagram.

Film Bridge Intl. Acquires Foreign Sales for ‘Buffaloed’ Starring Zoey Deutch
Film Bridge Intl. has come aboard to handle international sales rights for the comedy “Buffaloed,” starring and produced by Zoey Deutch. The pic premiered at Tribeca Film Festival.

Set in the underworld of debt collecting, the movie follows homegrown hustler, Peg Dahl (Deutch), who will do anything to escape Buffalo, NY. After getting into some trouble, Peg finds herself crippled by debt. With her chances of a brighter future outside of her hometown squandered, she decides to become a debt collector herself and wages war with Buffalo’s king pin of debt collecting.

The feature was directed by Tanya Wexler, and was penned by Brian Sacca, his first feature film as a writer. As an actor he is a series regular on TBS’s “Wrecked,” and was featured in “Wolf of Wall Street,” “Band of Robbers” and “Kings of Summer.”

The film also stars Judy Greer, Jermaine Fowler, Noah Reid and Jai Courtney.

Film Bridge Boards Zoey Deutch Comedy ‘Buffaloed’ – Afm

Film Bridge International has picked up sales rights to Buffaloed, Tanya Wexler’s comedy-drama starring and produced by Zoey Deutch.

The pic premiered at Tribeca this year. Also starring are Judy Greer, Jermaine Fowler, Noah Reid and Jai Courtney. Set in the underworld of debt collecting, the story follows a homegrown hustler who, after getting into some trouble, decides to become a debt collector herself and wages war with Buffalo’s ‘king pin’ of debt collecting.

Brian Sacca wrote the screenplay. Producers were Lost City’s Mason Novic, John Finemore and Bold Crayon’s Michael Bannor MacGregor and Jeffrey Katz, along with Deutch and Sacca.

Domestic rights sit with the producers.

James Hoppe, Elizabeth Grave and Brooke Davies executive produced for Lost City, Phil Quartararo for Bold Crayon, along with Mary Anne Waterhouse and Kirsten Ames. Hyperion Equity Partners provided the financing on behalf of Bold Crayon.

The Safran Company Inks First-Look Deal With Warner Bros, Taps ‘Rampage’ Producer John Rickard As President Of Production

Exclusive: Peter Safran’s The Safran Company has finalized a first-look producing deal at Warner Bros and has named Wrigley Pictures chief and Rampage producer John Rickard as president of production.

The deal brings together two esteemed blockbuster producers on the Burbank lot: Safran, who has been behind the $1.9 billion-grossing success of New Line’s Conjuring franchise and the highest-grossing DC movie of all time in Aquaman ($1.15B), and Rickard, who in addition to delivering such hits as the $428M-grossing Dwayne Johnson vehicle Rampage was also a producer on New Line’s $320M-plus-grossing Horrible Bosses series. Both are respected by Warner Bros and New Line brass as producers who get their hands dirty, show up on set, and are with the production beyond set-to-wrap.

‘All That’ Revival Scores 13 More Episodes at Nickelodeon

The “All That” revival at Nickelodeon just got twice as big.

Nickelodeon has issued an order for 13 more episodes of the new spin on the ’90s sketch comedy show, taking the total episode count for season 1 of the revival to 26. Variety reported exclusively back in February that an “All That” revival was in the works, and it has aired 10 episodes to date. The premiere featured the Jonas Brothers as musical guests.

The kids cabler also announced a new cast member joining the lineup in Aria Brooks from Atlanta, Ga. She joins fellow cast members Ryan Alessi, Reece Caddell, Kate Godfrey, Gabrielle Nevaeh Green, Nathan Janak, Lex Lumpkin and Chinguun Sergelen.

All That” is exec produced by original cast member and “Saturday Night Live” star Kenan Thompson, as well as Kel Mitchell, Kevin Kay and Jermaine Fowler. Kevin Kopelow and Heath Seifert also serve as executive producers.

Nickelodeon doubled the order for its “All That” reboot on Wednesday, extending the run of the show’s first season by 13 episodes.

The kids’ sketch comedy show will now air a total of 26 episodes this season, with new cast member Aria Brooks joining the ensemble.

A reboot of Nick’s long-running series from the ’90s, the new iteration of “All That” currently stars Ryan Alessi, Reece Caddell, Kate Godfrey, Gabrielle Nevaeh Green, Nathan Janak, Lex Lumpkin and Chinguun Sergelen, featuring new characters, impersonations of today’s celebrities and new original comedic sketches including “Cancelled with Nathan,” “Bed, Bath & Beyoncé” and “Marie Kiddo.”

Nickelodeon has picked up 13 additional episodes of sketch comedy series ‘All That, bringing the first season of the revival of the 1990s staple to 26 episodes. As part of the additional episode order, Aria Brooks from Atlanta, Ga. is joining the cast of comedians. New episodes of All That air on Saturdays at 8:30 p.m. on Nickelodeon.

Coming to America star Louie Anderson has revealed he has filmed a scene for the upcoming sequel Coming 2 America. He also feels convinced that the movie will top a billion dollars at the box office. After portraying McDowell's employee and management hopeful Maurice in the original 1988 movie, Anderson was tapped to appear in the sequel. Confirming his involvement, Anderson praised his fellow cast and crew members before going on to predict incredible success for the movie when it's released in 2020.

Despite being asked repeatedly, however, Louie Anderson stops short of revealing any details about the plot, who he'll play, or how his character factors into the sequel, noting he didn't want to violate the Nda he signed.

Deadline is reporting that Tracy Morgan (The Last Og) and R&b star Rotimi (Power) have been cast in Paramount Pictures’ Coming 2 America, the sequel to the 1988 comedy classic Coming to America.

The film is being directed by Craig Brewer (Hustle & Flow) and sees the return of Eddie Murphy (Prince Akeem), Arsenio Hall (Semmi), James Earl Jones (King Jaffe Joffer), Paul Bates (Oha) and John Amos (Cleo McDowell).

Coming to America 2 director discusses the sequel as John Amos confirmed to return

Having teamed with Eddie Murphy on the upcoming Rudy Ray Moore biopic Dolemite Is My Name, director Craig Brewer now finds himself tackling Coming 2 America, the sequel to Murphy’s 1988 comedy classic – an experience he says is “both a joy and incredibly daunting.”

“Every day we realize the legacy that we are playing with,” Brewer tells EW. “It is both a joy and incredibly daunting… I don’t want to sound too outrageous, but I think America needs Akeem and Semmi right now. [Laughs] I hope you know that’s sincere from me, that’s how I feel. We need them.”
