Hear ‘Stranger Things’ Star Joe Keery’s Debut Single ‘Roddy’
Joe Keery is best known as Steve Harrington, a.k.a. the guy with the hair, on Netflix series Stranger Things. But the actor is also part of musical project Djo, which has dropped its debut single “Roddy.”

On the track, Keery, who previously played in Chicago band Post Animal, takes on the vocals, singing, “So man in the mirror/Make another home here/You’re put together but clear/You’re lackin’ substance not fear.” The psych-tinged indie rock tune was written by Keery himself and a low-key, intimate vibe.

Tribeca Film Review: ‘I Want My MTV’

  • Variety
The first thing you want from a history of MTV is to get dunked in the hot-but-cool nostalgia of it, and the fast, fleet documentary “I Want My MTV” delivers those 1980s goods about as good as you can get. Here’s “Video Killed the Radio Star,” the novelty single by the Buggles that launched the channel on Aug. 1, 1981 — a tune that, in hindsight, sounds as sing-song catchy in its percolating bliss as a Divertimento by Mozart. Here are the five original VJs — shaggy Mark Goodman, earnest Alan Hunter, snarky Martha Quinn, jovial J.J. Jackson, and hipstery Nina Blackwood — fumbling around against a set that looks more like Wayne Campbell’s basement than a television studio, tossing off we’re-making-this-up-on-the-spot-and-we-know-it patter that became the casual formative version of “attitude.”

Here are those primitive early days when for every music video that was made with flair, like the S&M-flavored Old

‘Penguins’ Film Review: Ed Helms Narrates a Plucky Pygoscelis in Disneynature’s Latest

  • The Wrap
Although the name “Disney” has become roughly synonymous with a multi-tentacled corporate octopus over the years, latching onto every profitable pop culture phenomenon it can reach and then squeezing it dry — it’s important to remember that it’s also synonymous with “nature documentaries,” and that it has been ever since the Oscar-winning short “Seal Island” way back in 1948.

These nature docs have, over the decades, exposed audiences and particularly Disney’s target demo of wholesome family units to the wide-ranging world of animals in their various natural habitats. For the last 11 years, the Disneynature label has been keeping this torch aflame, and their latest documentary “Penguins” is another feather in the imprint’s cap.

Sumptuously photographed and narratively benign, “Penguins” explores the life of the Adélie penguin, which is smaller than its Emperor cousins and — arguably — even cuter. Ed Helms narrates and provides the voice for our Adélie protagonist,

Joseph chose something he wrote and ended up wowing Simon, Heidi Klum, Mel B, Howie Mandel and guest judge Olivia Munn. Thanks to Simon’s rude interruption, Joseph was able to show a different side of himself and ended up advancing to the “Agt” live shows. That's 'Entertainment': The Story Behind the Cringe-Comedy of the Year
If you were to meet Australia-born, Arizona-raised musician Gregg Turkington, you'd find a somewhat shy, easygoing 47-year-old guy, the kind of person who seems more comfortable doing voiceover work for shows like Adventure Time than baiting a paying audience. But if you were to encounter his alter-ego in the indie cringe-comedy Entertainment — a sweaty, Borscht Belt-style stand-up with a penchant for phlegmy throat-clearing and telling rancid, rat-a-tat-tat one-liners like "Why did God create Domino's Pizza? To punish humanity for their complacency in letting the Holocaust happen" — you might be tempted

'The Goonies' 30th Anniversary Soundtrack Coming to Vinyl

'The Goonies' 30th Anniversary Soundtrack Coming to Vinyl
Amblin Entertainment is celebrating the 30th Anniversary of two of its biggest hits of all time. These are movies that went onto have a long shelf life, and are both adored by fans. But it seems that the Back to The Future 30th Anniversary celebration has dwarfed The Goonies. That movie is getting released back into theaters, will have a special edition Blu-ray, and a ton of other collectibles that are hitting store shelves this October. But The Goonies isn't being completely left out in the cold. Amazon has something very cool planned, and its something collectors are definitely going to want to get their hands on.

Amazon has started pressing and producing its own line of vinyl records under the Amazon label. And on October 9th, they are releasing 5 vinyl soundtracks to some of the 80s most beloved movies. Including The Goonies, which is getting a special 30th Anniversary release.

Watch Imagine Dragons, Reo Speedwagon Form Temporary Supergroup on 'Kimmel'

Watch Imagine Dragons, Reo Speedwagon Form Temporary Supergroup on 'Kimmel'
Though the two bands look bizarre sharing a stage, Reo Speedwagon's emotive hard rock and Imagine Dragons' sculpted alt rock somehow make sense together. Imagine Reo SpeedDragons united this week on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, performing the elder band's 1978 hit "Roll With the Changes."

The culture clash is evident at first in the above clip, with Dragons frontman Dan Reynolds adding awkward auxiliary percussion over the song's anthemic gospel-rock riffs. But the stage-cramming supergroup works better than it should: Reynolds and Speedwagon singer Kevin Cronin have oddly complementary voices,

The shows & films that made Britain fall in love with anime

From Marine Boy and Thundercats to Cities Of Gold and Akira, we look at the TV shows and movies that introduced the UK to Japanese anime

One evening in 1994, the BBC screened a documentary simply called Manga. Presented by Jonathan Ross, it showcased the rising popularity of Japanese animation, largely focusing on the output of Manga Entertainment, whose dubbed VHS releases had made a huge impact on anime fans and caused a certain amount of consternation among the mainstream press.

For British viewers, the anime boom took a long time to arrive. In America, Japanese shows like Kimba The White Lion, Gigantor and Astro Boy were a common sight on television in the 1960s, yet it took until the late 70s and 80s, and a string of European-Japanese co-productions, before anime finally began to find a hold on UK television.

As a youngster at the time, I didn't necessarily know

Parenthood Recap: We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together

Parenthood Recap: We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together
Parenthood‘s Joel and Julia have the kind of relationship Taylor Swift songs are made of.

A trip to Sydney’s classmate’s house on Thursday — you know, to make her apologize for being a tiny terror — led to the conversation no fan of the show, or fan of true love for that matter, ever wanted to hear: “We need to tell them we’re not getting back together.”

In the end, though, Julia couldn’t bring herself to say those words — or anything close to those words — to their kids. Instead, she told Sydney that the future is uncertain,

With the five main members of pioneering rap group N.W.A. already set, the biopic Straight Outta Compton has added Paul Giamatti as N.W.A. manager and Ruthless Records co-founder Jerry Heller.

The story follows five young rappers from Compton, who channeled their harsh upbringing into their revolutionary music, as they pioneered the "gangsta rap" genre and became one of the most important rap groups in music history. Jason Mitchell is playing Eazy-e, O'Shea Jackson Jr. is portraying Ice Cube (his real life father), and Corey Antonio Hawkins is set to portray Dr. Dre, with Aldis Hodge and Neil Brown Jr. rounding out the main cast as M.C. Ren and DJ Yella.

Paul Giamatti is playing the group's manager Jerry Heller, who co-founded the Ruthless Records label with Eazy-e and oversaw their rise to stardom. However, when the band broke up after Ice Cube and Dr. Dre left, Jerry Heller was blamed

Nicolas Winding Refn Defends Ryan Gosling's Lost River

Last week we showed you the teaser for Ryan Gosling’s directorial debut, Lost River, and it was a little, um, puzzling? But it definitely looked intriguing. A couple days later the movie premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, and no one likes it, basically. It has been the subject of some fantastically mean tweets and reviews. Some of the kinder reviews liken it to a student film or a practice run. Apart from calling the movie “unthinkingly offensive,” the main criticism seems to be that Gosling doesn’t have much of a voice yet, so the film feels like an inferior knockoff of other directors’ work.

One of those directors is, of course, Nicolas Winding Refn, Gosling’s bromantic partner and two time collaborator. Vulture caught up with the director at the festival and asked him what he thought of Gosling’s movie.

"I think it's a beautiful, beautiful,
