Movie Review – Room For Rent (2019)

Room For Rent, 2019.

Directed by Tommy Stovall.

Starring Lin Shaye, Oliver Rayon, Valeska Miller, and Ryan Ochoa.

Synopsis:

Joyce, a lonely widow, rents out a room in her house. She soon becomes dangerously obsessed with one of her guests, a mysterious drifter.

Let’s start this review off by talking about the incomparable Lin Shaye. As the star of Room For Rent, Shaye carries the film on her back. Not only giving the best performance of the piece but giving it an overall grander feeling with her presence.

A veteran actor with over 40 years in the business, Lin Shaye is a force in the horror community as she churns out memorable performance after memorable performance. Even when the film isn’t as strong as her acting, like Room For Rent, she still elevates the material like no other. Any movie that gives a starring role to a woman in her 70s is admirable.

‘Room For Rent’ Review

Stars: Lin Shaye, Oliver Rayon, Valeska Miller, Ryan Ochoa | Written by Stuart Flack | Directed by Tommy Stovall

Sometimes it just takes one actor to be starring in a movie, and in particular, a horror movie, for me to give it a chance. This was the case with Room For Rent which has the brilliant Lin Shaye in the lead role.

Lin Shaye is best known by horror fans for her roles in the Insidious movies, including being the lead and focus of the fourth movie in the franchise – Insidious: The Last Key. Though personally I loved her performance in the under seen dark comedy horror Dead End. Now, as a bit of a genre legend, I will give anything a watch if I know she has a decent role. In Room For Rent she plays Joyce. A woman who has recently lost here husband and to earn some much needed

Insidious Star Lin Shaye Goes a Little Crazy in This Trailer for Her New Thriller Room For Rent

Insidious actress Lin Shaye has got a new movie coming out called Room for Rent. It’s a thriller in which we see her descend into obsession and madness as she becomes infatuated with a young man who moves into her house.

Here’s the synopsis for the film:

Lonely widow Joyce (Lin Shaye) rents out a room to make easy money. She meets mysterious drifter Bob (Oliver Rayon) and takes him in as a long-term tenant. She becomes obsessed with her much younger guest, making him the object of her deepest romantic fantasies. When a friend's betrayal derails Joyce’s fantasy world, she seizes control of her own destiny with a deadly mission to finally get what she deserves.

While this doesn’t look like it’s going to be a good film, I’m sure that there’s an audience out there that will enjoy the story it tells.

Lin Shaye is Crazy Obsessed in Trailer for Horror Film 'Room for Rent'

"Silly me... I can't quite reach my towel." Uncork'd Entertainment has debuted an official trailer for Room for Rent, an indie horror thriller from Arizona-based filmmaker Tommy Stovall. Horror icon Lin Shaye stars in this suspense thriller as a lonely widow who rents out a room in her house and becomes dangerously obsessed with one of her younger guests. When a friend’s betrayal derails Joyce’s fantasy world, she seizes control of her own destiny with a deadly mission to finally get what she deserves. The cast includes Oliver Rayon, Valeska Miller, Linda Cushma, Casey Nicholas-Price, and Ryan Ochoa. This looks so tacky and weird and unfortunately incredibly dumb. These kind of bad horror flicks are a dime a dozen nowadays. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Tommy Stovall's Room for Rent, direct from YouTube: Lonely widow Joyce (Lin Shaye) rents out a room to make easy money.
