Comic Relief breaks £1bn barrier in 30 years of fundraising

Charity night’s total passes £70m, featuring Dermot O’Leary completing a 24-hour danceathon and Rowan Atkinson and Dawn French in Mr Bean and Vicar of Dibley sketches

Comic Relief has broken the £1bn barrier after 30 years, with more than £70.5m already raised at this year.

Red Nose Day 2015 coverage has already seen a host of celebrities perform one-off sketches live in front of the nation on BBC 1. By midnight the total had reached £70,501,108.
