Storyline

Thelma Harper and her spinster sister Fran open their home to Thelma's recently divorced son Vinton and his teenage son and daughter. It's quite an adjustment for everyone, especially the cranky, argumentative Thelma. Written by Kevin Ackley <kackley1@aol.com>

Alternate Versions

When released to syndication in 1986, all Season 1 and 2 episodes were changed to match up with the new, first-run episodes. The original introductions by Harvey Korman as Alistair Quince were removed and the original opening credits were altered to match the ones on the first run episodes. In addition, the closing tag shot of the exterior of the Harper house seen at the end of the each episode, was replaced by a new closing tag shot of the exterior of the Harper house as seen in the first-run syndicated episodes, along with new closing credits in the same style as used on the the syndicated first-run episodes. The Warner Home Video season 1 DVD release has the episodes in their syndicated version, but season 1 was reissued by StarVista, along with season 2, in their original network broadcast versions in 2013. User Reviews

One of the funniest sitcoms ever
28 April 1999 | by eric-144See all my reviews

This is one of the classics that I love watching to this day. Vicki Lawrence and the whole cast made this show great. The Best episodes are the ones with Bubba, Iola and the cast. Just some of Mama's looks and expressions will make me laugh out loud. Naomi is also great. Wish the show would have stayed on the air longer but thank god for a show that will make you laugh out loud. They don't make them like this anymore and they should!
