Landmark Studio Group & Michael Rapaport Team On Original Dramedy Series ‘Flagrant’

  • Deadline
Exclusive: Landmark Studio Group has put in development Flagrant, an original dramedy series with Michael Rapaport set to star and executive produce. Peter Hoare and Pete Correale will serve as co-writers and showrunners. The project is among the first set at Landmark, co-funded by Chicken Soup For the Soul Entertainment and Cole Strategic Partners, following its launch last month.

In Flagrant, twenty years after he was caught throwing a game and gambling on his own team, a disgraced college basketball player gets an unlikely shot at redemption. He fled Queens, NY decades ago to get away from the stigma of the scandal, but he’s now asked to come home and fill in as coach for a currently-failing team, at the same school he famously sold down the river decades ago.

'Theevandi' review: Tovino impresses in a movie with a strong first half

MollywoodTovino Thomas plays a teenager and an irresponsible adult equally well in ‘Theevandi’, but the film takes an easy route to portraying a smoker's struggle. Sowmya RajendranTovino Thomas seems to be determined to prove his versatility with every film he signs. In debut director Fellini Tp's Theevandi (written by Vini Vishwa Lal), he goes from high school boy with a funky haircut and baby skin to a bearded, irresponsible adult – and never for a moment is he unconvincing. The script, though, doesn't match up to the performer it has on board. Theevandi is about a chain smoker. When Bineesh (Tovino) is born, the midwife believes it is a stillbirth. But his chain-smoking uncle (Sudheesh) blows a few puffs on the newborn's face and the baby cries at last. It's not a particularly creative beginning and we've seen one too many films with such an 'origin' story to explain a character's behaviour.
