Jennifer Aniston, Greg Berlanti Tapped for SAG-aftra Foundation Honors
Jennifer Aniston and Greg Berlanti will be honored at SAG-aftra Foundation’s fourth annual Patron of the Artists Awards.

The duo will be feted on Nov. 7 at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills. Berlanti will receive a Patron of the Artists Award for creating significant professional opportunities for performing artists to work and thrive. Aniston will receive an Artists Inspiration Award for using her creative and professional success as a performing artist to advance philanthropic and humanitarian causes.

Ava DuVernay was previously announced as an honoree for the Patron of the Artists Award and Mark Ruffalo for the Artists Inspiration Award.

“From her tireless work as a spokesperson for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital to her advocacy work for cancer research, Jennifer sets a sterling example for all artists to use their influence to give back to others,” said JoBeth Williams, SAG-AFTRA Foundation board president.

Tiffany Haddish and Ali Wong are literally winging it in the trailer for their upcoming Netflix animated series “Tuca & Bertie.”

Haddish voices Tuca, a cocky, care-free toucan, while Wong voices her best friend Bertie, an anxious, daydreaming songbird. Living in the same apartment building, the pair of 30-year-old bird women take on life together in a world where the subway is actually a snake and jaguars make good pets.

Steven Yeun joins Haddish and Wong as a series regular. Guest voices include Nicole Byer, Richard E. Grant, John Early, Reggie Watts, Tig Notaro, Amber Ruffin, Jermaine Fowler, and Tessa Thompson. The series will have its world premiere May 1 at the Tribeca Film Festival ahead of its May 3 Netflix launch.

Exclusive: Mad Men alum John Slattery has been tapped as the lead of neXT, Fox’s AI thriller drama pilot from 20th Century Fox TV.

This marks the first broadcast pilot for Slattery since his seven-season run on AMC’s Mad Men as Roger Sterling, which earned him four Emmy nominations. It is his first broadcast series regular role in a decade and a half, since Greg Berlanti’s 2014 CW drama Jack & Bobby. I( hear new Fox Entertainment CEO Charlie Collier, who has a relationship with Slattery from his long tenure as head of AMC, was involved in bringing the actor to the the broadcast network.

Former ‘Daredevil’ Showrunner Erik Oleson Sets Overall Deal at Amazon

Another Marvel-Netflix alum is making the move to Amazon.

Erik Oleson, who was most recently the showrunner on “Daredevil,” has signed an overall deal at Amazon, Variety has learned. The news comes after it was announced in December that “Luke Cage” creator and showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker had signed a similar deal.

“I want to tell the kind of stories that I love: stories that have great characters, thrilling concepts and epic backdrops, but are about something meaningful,” Olseon said. “Stories which allow an audience to think and feel rewarded for watching. Amazon is a perfect home for these stories, and I’m psyched to work alongside the entire Amazon Studios team.”

This also marks a homecoming for Oleson, who previously worked as an executive producer and head writer on the second season of Amazon’s “The Man in the High Castle.”

He will received the honor at the 56th Annual International Cinematographers Guild Publicists Awards on Feb. 22 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif.

Icg National President Steven Poster said, “Greg Berlanti has produced a prodigious amount of quality television in the 21st century – almost 30 series, over 1,000 episodes, with many more in the pipeline. Logan Lerman in Talks to Star in Jordan Peele’s Nazi Hunter Drama ‘The Hunt’ at Amazon
“Percy Jackson” alum Logan Lerman is set to star in the Jordan Peele-produced Amazon drama “The Hunt.”

Set in 1977 New York City, “The Hunt” centers on a group known as The Hunters, who discover that hundreds of high ranking Nazi officials have been conspiring to create a Fourth Reich in the U.S. and set out on a bloody quest to bring them to justice and thwart their new genocidal plans.

Lerman is set to play Jonah Heidelbaum, who, when his grandmother is slain by a mysterious intruder in their apartment, sets out to track the culprit — only to find himself swept up in the mysterious organization known as The Hunt, a group of justice-seeking individuals dedicated to rooting out the Nazi murderers living in the U.S. under assumed identities.

Newport Beach Film Festival Offers Wealth of Premieres, Retrospectives and Seminars

Nbff kicks off opening night with Sundance hit “American Animals.” The British-American true crime drama, written and directed by Bart Layton, starring Evan Peters, Barry Keoghan, Blake Jenner and Jared Abrahamson, will be followed by a gala reception at the Fashion Island shopping mall.

The fest will end its eight-day run with the West Coast premiere of “All Square,” director John Hyams’ dramedy about a small-time bookie (Michael Kelly) who comes up with a scheme to take bets on Little League games.

Following the screening, the fest, in partnership with Schiefer ChopShop and Via Lido Plaza, will host the closing-night celebration. The outdoor event will feature a hosted bar by Tito’s Vodka, Oban Whiskey and Guinness, with culinary tastings from top local restaurants.

The Oscar-nominated co-writer of “The Shape of Water” has booked her next gig. She’ll follow-up the otherworldly fairy tale with a gritty drama set in the Rust Belt, an adaptation of “Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis.” Deadline broke the news.

J.D. Vance’s 2016 best-seller tackles the white underclass, race, and privilege in the United States. “Vance, raised poor among working-class ‘hillbillies,’ explores his childhood and family struggles as they navigate through drug addiction, and social, and economic challenges,” according to the source. “Supported by his larger-than-life grandmother, he developed a deep appreciation for education that laid the foundation for him to rise out of poverty and its cultural restraints.”

Taylor is up for an Oscar at this Sunday’s ceremony for penning Sally Hawkins-starrer “The Shape of Water.” “Divergent,” “Game of Thrones,” and “Hope Springs” are among her previous credits.

Foley's representative tells American publication People, "It happened about two weeks ago. They're very happy." Foley, 34, was previously married for three years to actress Jennifer Garner. They divorced in 2003. He currently stars on the CBS drama The Unit and is known for his guest-starring roles on television series including Scrubs and Jack & Bobby. Dominczyk, 26, who was born in Poland, has appeared on TV shows including Brothers & Sisters, Bones and North Shore. She also had a small role in The 40-Year-Old Virgin. This will be her first marriage.

Screen Actors Guild Nominations Go Sideways
Perennial awards favorite Sideways dominated the Screen Actors Guild nominations with a field-best four nominations, including Best Ensemble Cast. The Alexander Payne comedy also nabbed three individual acting nominations as well for lead Paul Giamatti and supporting players Thomas Haden Church and Virginia Madsen, putting it just ahead of a number of films that received three nominations each, including The Aviator, Finding Neverland, Million Dollar Baby, and Hotel Rwanda; all those movies also earned Best Ensemble nominations alongside Ray and Sideways. Jamie Foxx was once again the actor of the hour, taking home three individual nominations for Ray, Collateral, and TV movie Redemption: The Stan Tookie Williams Story as well as an Ensemble nod for Ray. Foxx was followed by Hilary Swank, who received two solo nominations, for Million Dollar Baby and HBO movie Iron Jawed Angels, and an Ensemble mention for Million Dollar Baby.

With their film nominations, the SAGs threw a number of new names into the awards season mix, including Catalina Sandino Moreno (Maria Full of Grace), James Garner (The Notebook), Freddie Highmore (Finding Neverland), Cloris Leachman (Spanglish), and Sophie Okonedo (Hotel Rwanda). A few noticeable absentees included Liam Neeson (Kinsey), Javier Bardem (The Sea Inside), and the entire cast of Closer, an actor-driven movie if there ever was one. On the TV side, familiar shows (The Sopranos, Everybody Loves Raymond, etc) rubbed elbows with a handful of newcomers, including Arrested Development and Desperate Housewives, and Patricia Heaton pulled a Hilary Swank of her own, getting two individual nominations for Everybody Loves Raymond and TV movie remake The Goodbye Girl as well as an Ensemble nomination for Raymond.
