I did not read the novella behind the script and I am not familiar with the work of Lopushanskiy, so I'll just leave a brief description of what I saw.

I ve found this movie accidentally and because I like decent indie I ve watched it. Should say, that first scene got my attention, but after that, in almost every scene, my eyes kept paid attention to seemingly minor flaws, which in total turned out so much that I didn't manage to fully immerse myself in viewing.

The weak sound design, creepy editing from scene to scene, empty phrases which brings absolutely nothing useful for plot or characters continued to replenish the column with minuses. Perhaps, if actors could play better or knew what they are talking about, it could work, but it didn't. Bad acting is a scourge of any picture and this one was not an exception. Maybe it is was not not their fault. Maybe they just didn't fit the role or simply the lines sucked (or actors themselves). Anyway, it ruined the diving in to the atmosphere that director tried to create but could not. Some of the scenes that has to be scary don't work neither. So I just continued to watch it as a good tutorial on how you can beautifully highlight the location and where you do not need to save on the quantity of frames.

Even when a movie is intellectual, and the film claims to be such, it is obliged to entertain, simply because it is a cinema. This is its direct task.
