The 1986 World Series, the 83rd playing of the modern championship series in Major League Baseball, was a memorable battle between the New York Mets, were making their third World Series appearance (last winning it all in 1969) and totaled one-hundred eight regular season wins, and the Boston Red Sox, returned to the Fall Classic after an eleven year hiatus, which helped to spread the legend of "The Curse of the Bambino" to mass public awareness. From the 1986 Playoffs against the Astros to the World Series against the Boston Red Sox, baseball doesn't get more exciting than this. Some of the most exciting baseball games ever played were played in October 1986.
From the 16 inning thriller against the Houston Astros which was a must win game for the Mets, to the Bill Buckner play, this year in baseball will live on in legend and infamy....
The Mets team contained the likes of a Dwight Gooden and Darryl Strawberry in their prime. The Mike Scott controversy added to the aura of the series between these two teams. If the NY Mets didn't beat the Houston Astros in Game 6 of the 1986 playoffs, they would have had to play a Game 7 against Mike Scott who was clearly cheating throughout the whole season, let alone the playoffs with his scuffed baseball tactics. These games are a must see if you never got a chance to see them.
Many people forget that when the ball went through Bill Buckner's legs, the game was already tied.
