Storyline

The Laramie bank has been robbed by Vernon Kane who killed a popular deputy. Slim Sherman trails the bandit into the desert taking half of Jess's water who turns back. He catches up with Kane wounding him in the wrist but Kane escapes. Kane then joins company with Jack Farnum, a gambler, and his long suffering wife, Deborah who are on their way to California looking for gold. When Kane comes upon them, one of their horses has been put down stranding them and he claims he's being trailed by a desperado who robbed a bank and killed a man west of them. They used Kane's horse to make a team of horses to pull the wagon. When Slim comes along, Kane's glib tongue has the couple, especially Jack, who wants to continue west siding with him against Slim. Slim is able to force the small band to go back to Laramie but it's a desperate fight for survival with little water, no rest and little help. Who will survive? Written by DarSpi

Don't you know a cowboy hero when you see one?

Simon Oakland steals this Laramie episode playing a charming yet most psychotic killer who just robbed a bank and killed a deputy. The posse trails him to the edge of desert country where John Smith decides to go on alone.

Both Oakland and Smith in that order meet a couple stranded in the desert, Robert Clarke and Sue England. One of their horses was just destroyed and they can't go on. The crafty Oakland says he's a deputy after a killer who just robbed a bank and killed. Of course John Smith comes along and says that he's the deputy from Laramie and Oakland's the guy he's after for the same crime.

Clarke is a shiftless ne'er do well and of weak character and he leans toward believing the oily Oakland. I think viewers back in 1960 must have been pounding the television saying don't you know this is Slim Sherman, TV cowboy hero. Don't you know a cowboy hero when you see one?

The contrasts between Sherman's character and Oakland are too broadly drawn for real suspense. Makes for a weaker episode. Yet Simon Oakland will fascinate you with what he does here.
