[Ten years later, Devil's Sweatgland. Ralph- now Rachel- climbs up a hill, throwing the spoon she used onto a large pile of other spoons. Her hair is grey. She's grown stubble and a long beard. She's toothless and her clothes are torn. She reaches the top and looks out over the canyon]
Ralph Bighead: Dear gosh. Let this not be another delusion. Can it be? Can it be that I've finally finished my life's master work?

Alternate Versions

Later reruns of this episode on Nickelodeon cut at least ten seconds of footage from the Wacky Deli pilot, including a couple of shots of Sal Ami whacking Betty Bologna with the phone, and an additional shot of him belching at the camera. These edits were most likely done for timing. See more »

Kind of like 'The Producers'.

In light of Ralph's coming out as trans in 'Static Cling', I will refer to him, or her, rather, as both of his/her names.

Ralph/Rachel Bighead, Ed and Bev's closet trans daughter, has finished the final episode of 'Meet the Fatheads', and is ordered to make a new show. So he/she tries to get out of the contract by getting Rocko, Heffer and Filburt to make it for him/her, knowing that they're complete idiots. But of course the TV executives love it, they put it on the air and Ralph/Rachel's harebrained plan backfires. He/she tries to sabotage the show. But everything he/she tries makes it even more of a success. The show puts Ralph/Rachel into a situation that every artist can relate to. It's a cynical statement that effort in any kind of art form doesn't matter. The masses just want something dumb and time-wasting, probably because they don't like being talked down to. Although these days a 'Fantasia' reference would probably be appreciated. Furthermore, it's hinted throughout the show that 'Meet the Fatheads' was something particularly personal to Rachel. In 'Static Cling' she even created a thinly-veiled caricature of herself as a baby for a special.

The storyboarding scene goes on a bit long, but it's fine otherwise. It's nice to know that Ralph/Rachel doesn't want to hurt Rocko (at Ed's suggestion), apart from that time in a comic when he/she let him fall off the top of her penthouse. Well, he/she is much nicer in the show itself anyway.
