Evacuation to a height of over one hundred fifty feet above sea level for London would be to areas of Hampstead in the north, Shooters Hill to the southeast, Biggin Hill to the south, and Richmond Hill to the southwest, all with sea levels double the height of the Thames Barrier, and all within five miles of the Thames. Assuming people casually walk three miles per hour, evacuation by foot would be less than two hours.

Spoilers

The trivia item below may give away important plot points.

Robert Carlyle (Robert Morrison) lost his father (to whom he was close) six weeks before filming began. The scene at the end, where he is crying by his father's body, was a very real emotional release for him, and was difficult for the other cast and crew to watch.
