Top 5: Movies from The Asylum

  • Nerdly
With Sharknado 5 making a splash on TV screens across the globe these past few weeks, what better time to visit the world of The Asylum? With a myriad of films under their belt, from their beginnings as king of the mockbuster to their foray into original film making, it’s no secret we’re big fans of these bastions of the direct to DVD market and have reviewed a Lot of their output! With that in mind, here’s my pick of the Top 5 (because it’s Sharknado Five… geddit?!?) movies from The Asylum in – shock, horror – order of preference…

5) Avengers Grimm

An off-the-wall mix of Grimm Fairy tale characters and superhero team-up movies which, frankly, should have been obvious given the title, Avengers Grimm’s plot is relatively simple: when Rumpelstiltskin uses the Magic Mirror to escapes to the modern world taking Snow White with him and destroying the mirror in the process,

WWE edit out Paige sex tape joke from Smackdown, Booker T unhappy – WrestleTalk News

Oli Davis rounds up the biggest professional wrestling news in his daily WrestleTalk column…

Kevin Owens: The Face Of DVD Sales

Independence Day didn’t just see the return of John Cena to WWE, the Smackdown Live debut of Rusev and Will Smith overcoming an alien invasion. July 4th also saw the official release of Kevin Owens’ first WWE DVD, quite fitting for the current United States champion and self-proclaimed Face of America.

Kevin Owens allowed himself a moment of reflection on Twitter:

In 1995, my dad rented a VHS of WrestleMania 11 at this video store in my hometown of Marieville. Today, my parents bought my DVD there.

PWInsider is reporting Ko’s Digital Versatile Disc is “already a massive hit,” selling out in several stores already and on Amazon even for fans who’ve ordered in advance. The article notes this

WWE release Cm Punk match, Cm Punk $1M wrestling return update – WrestleTalk News

Oli Davis rounds up the biggest professional wrestling news in his daily WrestleTalk column…

The great thing about having kids is that You Can Force Your Prejudices And Lifelong Agendas On Them.

So it’s no surprise Karl Anderson is indoctrinating his son early, teaching him how to perform a Swanton Bomb and a Splash on a John Cena cuddly toy:

John Cena has been the company-fronting babyface that fans have loved to hate for over a decade. In comparison, Roman Reigns is only just beginning that magical journey. The Big Dawg celebrated his 32nd birthday yesterday. Which means he has at least 18 more Wrestlemania main events in him.

If he’s really successful, he could become a part-timer, and wrestle a finally returning Cm Punk at Wrestlemania 50 in 2034…no, you’re right. That most definitely isn’t happening.

Not in WWE, at least!

Last week, British promotion 5 Star Wrestling

WWE star debuts, Finn Balor facing Brock Lesnar next? – WWE Raw, May 22, 2017 review

Oli Davis rounds up the biggest professional wrestling news in his daily WrestleTalk column…

Roman Reigns vs Bray Wyatt

Bray Wyatt opened the show with a refreshingly focused promo rather than the usual impressively delivered mumbo jumbo. He embodied the cult leader figure better than he has done in months, promising to slay the Beast once and for all if you – the WWE Universe – believe in him. It’s a shame we’ve been conditioned to expect nothing to come from all Bray Wyatt’s talk.

Property Lawyer Roman Reigns came down to remind The Eater of Worlds, “actually, sorry Bray, this is my yard” so Kurt Angle made a match between the two right now!

Samoa Joe attacked them both about five minutes in. Cue Seth Rollins running down for the save, and – holla holla – we’ve got ourselves a main event tag team match, playas.

Akira Tozawa beat

Shane McMahon shoots on backstage WWE, Batista teases WWE return – WrestleTalk News

Oli Davis rounds up the biggest professional wrestling news in his daily WrestleTalk column…

Daniel Bryan and Brie Bella have won the most prestigious mixed-gender tag division prize: a human child!

Brie gave birth to their daughter Birdie Joe Danielson on Tuesday night at 11.58pm, weighing in at 8 pounds, 10 ounces and standing at a fearsome 21 inches. To put that into context, she’d be on 205 Live, not the main roster.

Brie told WWE: “I can’t even express the overwhelming joy and love that Bryan and I are feeling. Now we know what parents mean about the love you feel when you first meet your child.”

Grandpa Vince McMahon wished the couple well on Twitter:

Congratulations to Brie @BellaTwins & @WWEDanielBryan on their beautiful daughter and newest addition to the @WWE family.

Vince McMahon (@VinceMcMahon) May 10, 2017

Sounds like you’ve signed her to a contract, Vince. That’s weird.

Seven More Ex-Superstars WWE Should Sign

Liam Hoofe takes a look at seven other ex-superstars the WWE should consider signing…

With Kurt Angle and The Hardy Boyz having returned to the WWE this past week, and Drew McIntyre re-signing with the company too, it would appear as though the WWE is entering a new era of rehiring old superstars to add to their current roster.

Since last year’s brand split we have also seen the return of Curt Hawkins, Shelton Benjamin (well, not yet), Jinder Mahal and of course, Goldberg. The company’s willingness to reach out to old stars has opened the door to many possible returns and here is a look at seven other stars the company should consider reaching out to.

Rey Mysterio

With WWE’s cruiserweight division finally beginning to get some momentum behind it, there would be no better time to add some real star power to the division than now.

Movie Review – The Marine 5: Battleground (2017)

The Marine 5: Battleground, 2017.

Directed by James Nunn.

Starring Mike ‘The Miz’ Mizanin, Bo Dallas, Anna Van Hooft, Nathan Mitchell, Naomi, Heath Slater, Sandy Robson, Curtis Axel, and Maryse Mizanin.

While working as an Emt back stateside Jake Carter after responding to a distress call, finds himself caught up protecting a person of interest from a biker gang ruthlessly hunting them down.

Bikers, street thugs, and Marines… *in Michael Cole voice* Ohhhhhhh Myyyyy!!!

To say I love The Marine franchise would be a bigger bullshit lie than Michael Cole professing that he “Loooooooves Final Fantasy” at this past Sunday’s WrestleMania 33. The truth is, these movies are sleep inducing and the complete opposite of exciting, but The Marine 5: Battleground actually isn’t too terrible. It’s certainly not a good movie, but there are aspects to admire.

Directed by James Nunn (not to be confused with James Gunn

10 Best Wrestlemania Matches To Watch On The WWE Network Part 2

"Stone Cold" Steve Austin vs The Rock- Wrestlemania 17

“Shaking hands with Satan himself.”

Wrestlemania 17, hands down, is the best Wrestlemania booked to date. Apart from a horribly short Women’s Championship match with Chyna facing off against Ivory, from the opening match to the main event, every match was great.

The main event of the show was "Stone Cold" Steve Austin vs The Rock. The previous year, Austin had been recovering from long needed neck surgery sustained at the hands of Owen Hart at Summerslam 1997. During his time away, superstars like The Rock and Triple H stepped up their game and became main event players in their own right. When you are out of action for close to a year, there is a very real fear that by the time you get back in the ring you would have lost a step or two. Or worse, that the fans would

WWE going after Matt & Jeff Hardy, original Bayley title plans revealed…

With Kevin Owens and Samoa Joe seemingly aligning with Triple H, many are speculating that we could be seeing the formation of The Authority 2.0.

If, for some bizarre reason, you want to relive The Authority’s first incarnation, you can pick up WWE’s official comic book that’s been detailing Seth Rollins siding with the McMahon-Helmsley faction. In a recent issue, Seth meets up with Triple H on The Game’s evil super-yacht base called The Sea-Rebral Assassin.

I want us all to take a moment to recognise what a solid pun that is.

We also need to recognise another achievement – Ring of Honor’s 15th anniversary.

The promotion’s first show – The Era of Honor Begins – was held on the 23rd February, 2002. The main event had Low Ki defeating Christopher Daniels and Daniel Bryan, with Eddie Guerrero, Super Crazy and Brian Kendrick also on the card.

Along with those names,

Finn Balor return update, ex-wwe star return plans revealed?

The worlds of professional wrestling and adult pornography crossover more than most would care to admit.

So I’m told.

From a friend.

Candice Michelle used to star in softcore porn films, Hulk Hogan had his sex-tape leaked by Gawker, and following her WWE career, Chyna starred in several adult movies, including Chyna Is Queen of the Ring, where she beat off nine other porn stars in a gang-bang Battle Royal.

So I read.

On the Internet.

On a private browser.

Adult film company Brazzers have now started filming their version of – and it’s surprising it’s taken so long considering the name – the Montreal Screwjob. Which gender bends Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels into porn stars Romi Rain and Mia Malkova, and casts Johnny Castle as Vince McMahon.

Wanna wrestle? @Brazzers @MiaMalkova @thejohnnycastle

Ex-wwe stars return to Tna, WWE Hall of Fame 2017 class leaked?

Just as it was reported from the Tna TV tapings, Brooke Tessmacher made her return in last night’s episode of Tna.

If it’s still called Tna, that is. The promotion’s new owners Anthem Giant Birds and Entertainment appear to be phasing out the name – one which many criticise for being an outdated play on the early-00s WWE tag team Test and Albert. And also that it sounds like the abbreviation of ‘tits and ass’.

Note to self: never let Vince Russo name your wrestling promotion.

Both Tna’s Twitter and Facebook pages now barely have any mention of those three initials, with Impact Wrestling now becoming the branding’s focus.

Anyways, back to Brooke. In a backstage interview, she announced she’s back with the promotion full-time and plans on winning the Knockouts Championship. And the former Damien Sandow in WWE, Aron Rex, debuted his

Blu-ray Review – The True Story of Royal Rumble (2016)

The True Story of Royal Rumble, 2016

For nearly 30 years, both WWE Superstars and WWE Universe members alike begin their Road to WrestleMania at Royal Rumble. An over-the-top free-for-all battle where the winner is given a one-way ticket to the Showcase of the Immortals. Get all the history, get all the stories, and learn The True Story of Royal Rumble.

With the WWE Network pushing out plenty of watchable documentaries and behind-the-scenes specials like The Monday Night War and WWE24, it seems odd the company is still releasing things like The True Story of the Royal Rumble on home video. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great to see all of your favourite superstars from past and present (and Roman Reigns) sit down and talk about, arguably, the second biggest show of the year, but is it worth your time to go out and buy it?

The documentary is

The Undertaker retiring at Wrestlemania 33? Ecw stars return to WWE

There are many great movie projects that have never seen the light of day. Tim Burton’s Superman Lives. Stanley Kubrick’s Napoleon. Tarkovsky’s The Idiot. And now, unfortunately, we can add another one…to the list!

Chris Jericho revealed in his recent interview with Live Audio Wrestling that he has pitched a buddy cop movie for WWE Studios with him and Kevin Owens. They came up with the idea after Vince McMahon really liked their chemistry together, but sadly it isn’t happening. Because WWE Studios already have brilliant projects such as Incarnate with Mark Henry, Temple with Seth Rollins, and The Marine 5: Battleground with The Miz, Maryse, Heath Slater, Curtis Axel, Bo Dallas and Naomi.

Another gimmick that might be close to jumping the shark is Chin McMahon himself, James Ellsworth.

Ellsworth has posted on his Facebook page that he is “no longer taking anymore independent wrestling bookings,
