Miscellaneous

During battle, Koval called out for course "523 mark 90". Course headings are determined by two rotational settings along perpendicular axes. Those two numbers would be within the ranges of 0-359 each, representing a full rotation. Making a call of 523 would be pointless.

Spoilers

The goof item below may give away important plot points.

Character error

At the conclusion of the movie, Uhura delivers a Captain's Log and gives a Stardate of 7615.1. As these events are set 13 years after the events of Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, and the Stardate given in that movie was 9521.6, the Stardates are obviously inconsistent. Furthermore, the Stardate given by Uhura would place this movie sometime in between Star Trek and Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, which were both set on Stardates 7411.4 and 8130.1 respectively.
