Prince Harry's Friend Offers Theory About His and Meghan Markle's Royal Exit

Prince Harry's Friend Offers Theory About His and Meghan Markle's Royal Exit
There have been several theories circulating as to why Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have decided to "step back as 'senior' members of the Royal Family," as they put it, and now, one of the Duke of Sussex's friends is offering his rare insight into the controversy. JJ Chalmers, a former Royal Marine who met Harry when they served in the military together several years ago, shared his thoughts in a recent interview on the BBC's The One Show. "He's less the captain in the army I used to knew, and he's more the father, and when I see him, it's 'How's the kid?' So that's the first thing that comes up," Chalmers...

Mrs Brown's Boys: how did the worst show on TV become a festive must-watch?

Somehow, without anyone noticing, the dire BBC sitcom has become the centrepiece of Christmas TV. How on Earth did this happen?

In a way, I’m glad that Mrs Brown’s Boys exists, and that it exists for the people it exists for, because I realised something halfway through watching this year’s Christmas special, and that is this: the viewers of Mrs Brown’s Boys are also the people writing in to complain on the BBC’s Points of View.

I have literally no evidence to back this up other than a sincere, unshakeable, powerful gut feeling, so let’s just take it as fact: everyone who finds themselves too challenged by, like, same-sex dance routines on Strictly, are also the same ones who see Agnes Brown and go: “Yeah, she’s got a big mole on her chin, that’s sort of like a joke.” A substantial amount

Is Ed Sheeran Related to The Irishman Mobster Robert De Niro Plays in Martin Scorsese’s Movie?
Could Ed Sheeran have a mobster in the family tree?

While promoting The Irishman, actor Stephen Graham claimed that the “Shade of You” singer, 28, is distantly related to Frank Sheeran, the real-life hitman played by Robert De Niro in the movie.

“It’s all based on true events,” Graham said during an interview on BBC’s The One Show. Seemingly struggling to remember the name of the central character, Graham noted that he thought “of Ed Sheeran” to help jog his memory.

“Apparently they’re related, you know,” he added. “Honest to God, I swear on my nana’s life.

BBC Internal Documents Show How It Grades Its Stars Using A ‘Top Trumps’-Style Scoring System

  • Deadline
Exclusive: Internal BBC documents have revealed how the British broadcaster conducts repeated research on its biggest stars and scores how well they are performing with audiences.

So-called BBC “talent reports” were released as part of the corporation’s legal battle with presenter Samira Ahmed, who has taken the BBC to an employment tribunal seeking £693,245 in lost earnings as part of an equal pay dispute.

Ahmed said “it just does not seem fair” that she was paid £440 for hosting an episode Newswatch, while at the same time, male presenter Jeremy Vine took home £3,000 for recording an installment of Points of View.

She argued that both shows, which invite viewer feedback on BBC output, involve similar work and provide audiences with a similar service. The BBC disputes this characterization, arguing that Newswatch is a news show on the “relatively niche” BBC News channel, while Points of View is a BBC One brand

BBC Clears Schedule After Court Rules Boris Johnson Broke Law By Suspending UK Parliament

  • Deadline
The BBC has cleared its schedule for news after a momentous ruling from the highest court in Britain on Tuesday.

The UK’s Supreme Court reached the unanimous conclusion that Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s decision to suspend Parliament for five weeks, known as proroguing Parliament, was unlawful.

Johnson shut down Parliament on September 9, with a plan to open it again on October 14. The government’s justification for the suspension was that it wanted to devise new policies for a Queen’s Speech, but critics said it was designed to stop MPs from frustrating Johnson’s Brexit plans.

In her verdict, Supreme Court’s President Lady Hale said: “The decision to advise Her Majesty to prorogue Parliament was unlawful because it had the effect of frustrating or preventing the ability of Parliament to carry out its constitutional functions without reasonable justification.”

Parliament will sit again on Wednesday.

Following the ruling’s publication,

I have been begged to do Strictly Come Dancing. Here’s why I turned it down | Adrian Chiles

There were more reasons for me not to take part than there are sequins on all the outfits of all the ballroom dancers in the world

Once upon a time, when I was presenting The One Show, I used to get asked – begged, even – to do Strictly Come Dancing. On one occasion, a couple of channel executives, who have since moved on, took me to dinner to try to talk me into it. They even pulled out glossy 10x8 photographs of the new professional dancers. I am sure this wasn’t their intention – they were just trying to enthuse me about the whole production – but to anyone looking on from another table it must have looked as though they were inviting me to take my pick.

There were more reasons for me not to do Strictly than there are sequins on all the outfits of all the ballroom dancers in the whole wide world.

The two-year agreement gives BBC Studios a first look at all of the London-based producers’ unscripted output. Big Deal’s managing director Dhanny Joshi told Variety that the deal will allow the company to beef up its development team and add to its growing slate.

Big Deal was born out of Joshi’s music-management business and co-founded with Thomas Stogdon, who is creative director. It majors in identifying underrepresented and diverse talent and stories, and bringing them to TV. Its factual output includes numerous pieces in BBC One’s flagship magazine series, “The One Show,” and short-form series “Disabled Fight Club” for Channel 4.

“The hunger for diverse content has never been higher,” said Rebecca Brown, specialist factual commercial manager for BBC Studios. “Supporting Big Deal

Richard E. Grant Says Star Wars: Episode IX Actors Aren’t Given Scripts

As various stories relayed from the set of Avengers: Endgame make clear, Disney can get pretty controlling in their spoiler security measures, and the upcoming Star Wars: Episode IX is no exception, with actor Richard E. Grant recently explaining the production’s excessive procedures for keeping details under wraps.

Speaking to The One Show, the actor explained that the cast is only allowed to see a full script under heavily monitored circumstances.

“It’s extraordinary,” he said. “They don’t give you a script, you have to go to a room where there are bodyguards outside, closed-circuit television cameras, and it’s printed on crimson pages so you can’t photograph it. You have to read it in there, and then leave.”

Mark Hamill also reflected on the film’s crimson script last month, lamenting how the tint gave him a headache to read. Regardless, the actors are at least

Princess Eugenie's Untold Love Story: Skype Dates, The Walking Dead and a Beautiful Volcano

For several long days this past January, Princess Eugenie's left hand felt agonizingly bare. While boyfriend Jack Brooksbank had proposed earlier in the month near a Nicaraguan lake, he dropped to one knee without the pale pink padparadscha sapphire he'd selected in part because "it changes color from every different angle," just like his multi-faceted gal. With Brooksbank nervous to set the stone "until Eugenie had signed off on it," as he explained in the couple's joint engagement interview on BBC's The One Show With Matt Baker, he waited until after his proposal to have a U.K. jeweler surround the bauble with diamonds. It wasn't until the evening of Jan. 21—less than 24 hours...

Former Doctor Who Showrunner Says He’s Heard Season 11 Is Brilliant

He might not be an active part of Doctor Who‘s production anymore, but former showrunner Russell T. Davies still has friends who work on the sci-fi institution. And through them, he’s heard some good things about Jodie Whittaker’s new era in the Tardis.

Davies – who helmed the show from 2005 to 2010, overseeing both Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant’s tenures – was speaking on UK chat show The One Show to plug his new drama A Very English Scandal starring Hugh Grant (who he once asked to play the Doctor). Obviously, the conversation eventually turned towards Doctor Who and Davies teased that there’s a “real buzz” about the upcoming season 11 in Cardiff, Wales, the series’ home since its 21st century comeback.

“Down in Cardiff there’s a real buzz about it. People I know working on the show keep saying, ‘It’s brilliant, it’s brilliant, it’s brilliant.

“Smell my cheese!” Alan Partridge is back at the BBC with new series

“Smell my cheese, you mother!” appeared to bring about the end of Alan Partridge’s career at the BBC, but now the channel has welcomed back Steve Coogan’s creation as a stand-in on fictional evening magazine show This Time with Alan Partridge.

The BBC reported that filming began on Monday for the “heady mix” of consumer affairs, news, “highbrow interviews and lightweight froth” that is meant to riff on the channel’s disposable teatime chat show, The One Show.

Steve Coogan’s beloved character has served his time on various UK digital channels, and fronted North Norfolk Digital’s local radio show, but it will be the first time he has been back on mainstream television since shooting a guest live on air during a broadcast of Knowing Me, Knowing You.

Susannah Fielding (Black Mirror) will play his co-host, with Tim Key returning as Sidekick Simon. The six-part series will be written by Coogan,
