Storyline

Dramatisation of 'A Tale of Two Cities'. In the first episode, Jarvis Lorry, a banker is en route to France to rescue Dr Manette, an old client who had been kept a secret prisoner in the Bastille for some twenty years. He is overtaken by Jerry Cruncher, the bank messenger, with the message 'recalled to life'. At the Inn in Dover he meets Lucy, who hasn't seen her father since infancy, and her governess/companion, the eccentric Miss Pross. Across the water he meets the sinister Defarges and a number of men who are all called Jacques ... Written by Nick Gunning
