A somewhat limited, yet huge landmark in the history of gaming
29 April 2019 | by OlicosmicSee all my reviews

As someone who's only been a Nintendo fan for a little over a year now, it's safe to say I'm late to the party and then some. Funny thing is that I only just bought a Wii just 3-5 months ago so that I could experience all the great games that I missed out on due to me only being a Nintendo fan for a somewhat short amount of time as of now (it'll be much longer, as I love Nintendo, now), and this game was one of them. For a 2006 game that used motion controls as well as it does, this is definitely a huge staple of gaming, and with the amount of fun times this brings, it's understandable why this is so remembered fondly. The gameplay is rock solid, the visuals have a lot of charm, and the sports are all super fun, especially with other people. This is a tech demo done right, and the fact that games like "1-2 Switch" don't even come 1% close to the amount of fun this game brings just shows how hard it is for a tech demo to impress, and Nintendo found a great balance here that worked. This is not to say this is an amazing game that is an absolute must-have, because for as fun as this game is, it's a bit light on content. The only things you can really do are the sports and not much, if anything more. All of which are fun and have points in each of them, which does add some replay value, but this game doesn't have much depth outside of each sports, which can sometimes make the experience boring for those who want more than just the sports. Thankfully, these problems are mostly minor thanks to 2 things. One being that this was a pack in game, meaning that the game came free with the Wii, and two being that this game was never that expensive even if your Wii didn't come with the game, so you either have a huge steal or a reasonably priced game, both of which are definitely not bad things. With that said, I do recommend anyone with a Wii who hasn't played this yet to check this game out, as it's still a ton of fun today, even if there's not a lot of content, which, for 2006, I guess, is fine. Sure, it may be somewhat limited, but it's still a huge landmark in the history of gaming that'll live on as a classic on the Wii, and for good reason.
