Minecraft Movie Will be Written and Directed by Peter Sollett

Matthew Byrd Jan 11, 2019

Peter Sollett will take over the troubled Minecraft adaptation as writer and director.

Peter Sollett will write and direct Warner Bros. upcoming Minecraft movie adaptation.

Sollett is perhaps best known as the director of the 2008 title Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist. In recent years, he has primarily focused on directing television shows. Regardless, this is certainly the largest project from a notoriety standpoint that Sollett has been attached to. There's no official word at this time regarding why Warner Bros. chose Sollett to direct the Minecraft movie, but we do know he will work with producers Roy Lee and Jon Berg on the project. Jill Messick is also still credited as a producer on the film, but she passed away last year.

While Sollett will likely bring some changes to the movie, it seems that the film's basic plot will follow a young girl who must lead

CBS Cancels '2 Broke Girls'

2017-05-13T05:21:19-07:00Cbs Cancels '2 Broke Girls'

2 Broke Girls has run its course at CBS.

The network has canceled the comedy after six seasons.

On the bubble for the first time, the Warner Bros. Television-produced multicamera comedy starring Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs was left off of CBS' 16-show renewal in March. The Michael Patrick King comedy, while a critical punching bag, has been a sturdy performer for CBS. In its sixth season, the restaurant comedy has averaged a 1.9 among adults 18-49 and 7 million total viewers. Sources say a short 13-episode order been discussed for the series, which had been used on Mondays and Thursdays but ultimately the network's lack of an ownership proved to be its demise.

Network ownership has proven to be one of the biggest storylines this upfront season as broadcasters look to have a financial stake in programming amid dwindling ratings and ad dollars.

Captain Marvel Is the Strongest Hero in the McU Says Kevin Feige

Captain Marvel Is the Strongest Hero in the McU Says Kevin Feige
Marvel always has a few surprises up its sleeve during their annual Comic-Con appearance, and this year, they capped off their panel by officially announcing that Brie Larson is playing Carol Danvers, a.k.a. Captain Marvel. Captain Marvel doesn't hit theaters until March 8, 2019, but directors Joe Russo and Anthony Russo hinted this summer that she could make her McU debut in Avengers: Infinity War, which still hasn't been confirmed yet. While promoting Doctor Strange, Kevin Feige offered some new details about this superhero, who will apparently be the most powerful in the McU.

During an interview earlier this month, Kevin Feige made it clear that this Captain Marvel movie will be an origin story, although he wouldn't divulge any plot details. During an new interview with Vulture, he teased that Captain Marvel will be the strongest characer the McU has ever seen, but she'll also be quite flawed. Here's

Who Should Direct Captain Marvel? Marvel Narrows Their Search Down to 3 Choices

Marvel Studios is closing in on hiring a director to helm Brie Larson in Captain Marvel. According to THR, the studio has narrowed it down to three directors, who are Niki Caro, Lesli Linka Glatter, and Lorene Scafaria.

Niki Caro has been mentioned as a possibility before. She is the director of the wonderfully made 2002 film Whale Rider. She went on to direct Charlize Theron in a film called North Country; Kevin Costner in McFarland, USA; and Jessica Chastain in The Zookeeper’s Wife. Caro is a solid storyteller who has made some fantastic films.

Lesli Linka Glatter comes from the TV side of entertainment. She has directed episodes of several hit cable series that include Homeland, Ray Donovan, The Newsroom, True Blood, Mad Men, ER, and The West Wing. Since TV series kind of have their own style, it’s hard to tell what she could bring to the table for Captain Marvel.

Captain Marvel Director Shortlist Is Down to These Three Women

Captain Marvel Director Shortlist Is Down to These Three Women
While Marvel Studios won't be the first to have a female superhero movie made by a female director in the modern era of comic book movies, as that honor belongs to Patty Jenkins for Wonder Woman, they do have plans to make that happen in the relatively near future. We already know that Oscar winner Brie Larson will be playing the title role in Captain Marvel, now, all eyes are on who is going to direct. As expected, Marvel is definitely looking to go with a female Captain Marvel director, and they reportedly have their initial shortlist.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel has narrowed their search to three top choices; Niki Caro, Lesli Linka Glatter and Lorene Scafaria. That doesn't mean that the studio is ready to make an announcement soon, as the report notes sources are claiming Marvel is taking their time, and being very deliberate. According to the report,

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel Studios is narrowing down a list of names for who will take the helm of Captain Marvel. The latest candidates are Niki Caro, Lesli Linka Glatter and Lorene Scafaria, and they're said to be the top choices after being picked from a shortlist which was previously revealed to include the likes of Jennifer Kent (The Babadook) and Jennifer Yuh (Kung Fu Panda 2). Caro helmed the Oscar nominated Whale Rider along with North Country starring Charlize Theron and The Zookeeper's Wife with Jessica Chastain. Thor: Ragnarok — Devo's Mark Mothersbaugh Will Reportedly Compose The Score

I've always wished the Marvel Studios movies could have established instantly iconic musical themes for their characters. There was such a huge opportunity there to create cues for these larger than life heroes that are just as recognizable as John Williams' best tunes, but I think the studio really dropped the ball in this department. Thankfully, they hired Michael Giacchino to compose the score for Doctor Strange, and their latest hire also has the potential to give us something memorable: The Wrap reports that Kevin Feige and company have hired Mark Mothersbaugh to compose the score for Taika Waititi's Thor: Ragnarok.

Mothersbaugh is well known as the frontman for the band Devo, but he's also been composing music for movies since 1987's Revenge of the Nerds II: Nerds in Paradise. Some of his notable credits include Rushmore, The Royal Tenenbaums, The Life Aquatic, Lords of Dogtown, Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist,

Susan Sarandon’s Mommy Issues

What happens when the private persona of a performer bleeds over into the public creative sphere? The line is so fragile it often rends our ability to lose ourselves in the fictional world of art.

Susan Sarandon is an actor and activist now starring in Lorene Scafaria's odd, unexpectedly moving new film The Meddler, in which she speaks with a Joisey accent yet somehow manages to transcend the pitfalls of her potentially clichéd character, a widow graced with too much free time, money, and a daughter (Rose Byrne, a few colors short of a fully dimensional character) who resists her arrival in the younger woman's adopted home, Los Angeles.

Onscreen, Sarandon ends up mothering a host of unlikely strangers. Off screen she spent years being scolded for her outspokenness -- like Jane Fonda, before both women's place in popular culture shifted to approval for continuing to bare their beautiful

Watch Susan Sarandon play the most believable mom of all time

Watch Susan Sarandon play the most believable mom of all time
Susan Sarandon has long had a comic side, and not just because she hammed it up in Rocky Horror and fired off one-liners in Thelma and Louise. The Oscar-winning actress exudes brassiness, and occasionally she picks movies like The Banger Sisters and Tammy that highlight her quirks. (Don't forget her saucy, truly underrated voice work in James and the Giant Peach as Miss Spider.) Now she's playing the most intrusive yet believable mom in the new comedy The Meddler and it's a perfect fit.  Writer/director Lorene Scafaria previously handled Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist and Seeking a Friend for the End of the World. Her knack for wry, self-possessed characters suits not only Sarandon but also her costar Rose Byrne, who provided the biggest laughs in Neighbors and possibly Spy too. Jk Simmons seems like he's resuming the drollness of his character in Juno here, and I'm ready for that renaissance.
