Jake Lamotta, Real-Life Raging Bull Boxer, Dies at 95
Jake Lamotta, the boxing champion whose memoir inspired Martin Scorsese's Raging Bull has passed away. Lamotta died in a Miami nursing home due to complications with pneumonia, TMZ reports. Lamotta's wife confirmed the news while another family member said that his condition has deteriorated quite a bit over the fast weeks after he was put on a feeding tube, which he kept pulling out. Lamotta's wife said, "I just want people to know, he was a great, sweet, sensitive, strong, compelling man with a great sense of humor, with eyes that danced."

Lamotta's memoir inspired Martin Scorsese and his 1980 movie, Raging Bull, which Robert De Niro won an Academy Award for his portrayal of the troubled boxer. The movie is widely considered one of Scorsese's best, as well as one of the best American movies of all time. In 1990, it was named to the Library of Congress' National Film Registry,

Trailer for World Trade Center Drama '9/11' Directed by Martin Guigui

"I need you to try to get the hell out of that elevator." Atlas Distribution has premiered a trailer for a new drama titled 9/11, telling the story of five people trapped inside an elevator in the World Trade Center's North Tower on 9/11. They work together, never giving up hope, to try and find a way out safely. It's only been 16 years, but I guess we've reached a point where movies can literally use the 9/11 date as their title when telling a story centered around this horrific moment. The ensemble cast of this film includes Charlie Sheen, Whoopi Goldberg, Luis Guzman, Gina Gershon, Wood Harris, Jacqueline Bisset, Olga Fonda and Bruce Davison. It's directed by Martin Guigui, the same guy who made the unofficial Raging Bull sequel The Bronx Bull. The final shot in this trailer is totally crazy, and potentially a spoiler? Watch out. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster

Coming Distractions: The Bronx Bull is definitely not a Raging Bull sequel, especially in this trailer

  • The AV Club
A new trailer has been released for the clearly unauthorized Raging Bull non-sequel The Bronx Bull. In fact, MGM probably prefers that Raging Bull and The Bronx Bull are never said in the same sentence. (Lamotta, who is now 90 years old, sold his life’s rights to MGM in 1976, and they ultimately have the last say in all things Raging Bull.) Originally titled Raging Bull II , the studio dropped its lawsuit against the film once Lamotta agreed to change the title and sever all ties to Martin Scorsese’s 1980 film. Thus, The Bronx Bull, which is another of Lamotta’s charming nicknames, was born. And it is totally not an official follow-up, y’all. Seriously. It’s unauthorized as heck.

The Bronx Bull follows Lamotta’s troubled youth in the Bronx, his rise to fame, and his life outside the ring. Boardwalk Empire’s William Forsythe stars ...

First trailer for the unofficial Raging Bull sequel The Bronx Bull

Last year MGM launched a lawsuit against Jake Lamotta and director Martin Guigui (Beneath the Darkness) to prevent them from using the title Raging Bull II on a new low-budget biopic about the former Middleweight World Champion, who was of course portrayed by Robert De Niro in Martin Scorsese’s 1980 classic. Having agreed to change the title to The Bronx Bull, the first trailer has now arrived online, and we’ve got it for you below…

The Bronx Bull stars William Forsythe (Boardwalk Empire) as Lamotta, while the rest of the cast includes Joe Mantegna (The Godfather: Part III), Paul Sorvino (Goodfellas), Natasha Henstridge (Species), Penelope Ann Miller (Carlito’s Way), Ray Wise (Twin Peaks), Robert Davi (The Goonies), Tom Sizemore (Saving Private Ryan), and James Russo (Django Unchained).

As yet, there’s no word on a release date for The Bronx Bull, but don’t be surprised if this one ends up going straight-to-video.

Don't Watch: Trailer for Unofficial 'Raging Bull' Sequel 'Bronx Bull'

Way back in 2012 we heard about a sequel to the Martin Scorsese boxing drama Raging Bull, but since then, the film hasn't been given permission to associate itself with the iconic film. Instead, it's going by the title The Bronx Bull, with William Forsythe in the lead as Jake Lamotta instead of Robert De Niro. The film is both a sequel and a prequel, following Lamotta in his teenage years and also following some time in his life after his famed boxing career. Unfortuantely, it doesn't look all that great, which isn't surprising coming from Martin Guigui, whose previous work includes  National Lampoon's Cattle Call, a real gem. Watch? Here's the trailer for Martin Guigui The Bronx Bull from Exempt Capital Network (via The Film Stage): The Bronx Bull is directed by Martin Guigui, who co-wrote the script with Rustam Branaman. The film is described as a combination prequel
