Trivia

Icarus attempted to escape from Crete by flying using wings made of feathers and wax but flew too close to the sun, the wax melted and he fell into the sea. This tale is allegorical and warns against hubris. The project to unlock the Stargate's ninth and final chevron was called Project Icarus which is appropriate given the fate of those who subsequently entered the Stargate. Icarus is also the son of Daedalus, which is the name of one of Earth's starships. See more »

Took its time to get started but now...
24 October 2009 | by scoopdiddleSee all my reviews

...episode 5 (Light) may be the finest piece of Sci Fi writing I've seen in years.

I'll admit I fell asleep during the pilot, struggled to get through the third episode, started liking episode 4 and now I'm just hoping the rest holds up to the standard of episode 5.

The floating camera has gone from tiresome exposition provision to being a key dramatic device, the characters are great (of course they're unlikeable in the opening episodes - do you think being stranded on a dying ship with no hope of rescue is REALLY the sort of thing to build good times and great humour?)

OK, some of the "cinema verite" esquire quick pans are stolen from BSG but thats really the only similarity. We're not talking genocide, there's no nemesis other than rations, the comparison just doesn't hold.

If you can, watch it with either a top rate cinema system or a pair of headphones to do justice to the score, which really adds more than its been given credit for - but stick with it, it's worth it
