Sue's birthday is mentioned several time as being the 29th of February, which is the Leap Year Day. However, this is impossible. Sue graduated high school in 2015, which--with a February birthday--means she would have had to have been born in 1997. As Leap Year occurs only every four years, and each year is a multiple of four, the closest Leap Years to Sue's birth would have been 1996 and 2000, which would mean that in 2015 she would have turned either 19 or 15, respectively. There was also no mention of Sue's birthday in Season 7, despite 2016 being a Leap Year, though she is referenced as being 19 years old in Season 7, Episode 18, which first aired in March, meaning she has celebrated her birthday already.

Patricia Heaton's character Frankie Heck on this show is almost the complete opposite of her character Brie in the movie Beethoven (1992) (1992). In that film, Brie and her husband Brad (David Duchovny) were a yuppie childless couple who thrived in their careers as venture capitalists, drove BMW cars, and wore expensive clothing. On this show, Frankie Heck and her husband Mike (Neil Flynn) have 3 kids, work in mid to low level jobs (with the most career success being Mike's job as a quarry foreman), often struggle to pay the bills, occasionally work second jobs, drive old domestic cars that need upkeep, and wear moderately-priced clothing.
