Goofs

The date of death of Raylan's mother, Frances Givens, is inconsistent. Her gravestone (first seen in Justified: The Lord of War and Thunder) shows she died in 2000, when Raylan was 30, but Raylan tells Dickie that his Aunt Helen "raised her dead sister's kid like he was her own," implying he was young when his mother died. Arlo Givens also says that the past 15 years he spent with Helen, who helped him grieve after her sister's death, were the best of his life, but that would put Frances' death in the mid-1990s. Also, the gravestones shone on the Givens' property are not the same ones as before. See more »

This thing's a powder keg

Aunt Helen was the only bright spot in Raylan's upbringing, and her death has him going nearly blind with rage. His misery and Loretta's solitude all contribute to the somber tone of 'Reckoning', an episode that continues the fallout from the Black Pike deal, while still promising future eruptions. Tensions simmer in every character interaction here, and you can almost feel a war breaking out between the Bennetts, the Crowders and the law.

Fantastic performances across the board, and even the funereal vibe yields subtle hints of dark humor.

Outstanding drama.
