Entering Week Four of the 2010 season the New England Patriots were 2-1 off a 38-30 win over the Buffalo Bills while the Dolphins, who'd beaten New England the previous December in Miami, were also 2-1, coming off a close loss to the NY Jets the previous week. The game began as a grinder, as the Dolphins scored on a touchdown catch by Davon Bess. The Patriots booted two field goals as Chad Henne of the Dolphins was intercepted twice by Rob Ninkovich.
Star Patriots receiver Randy Moss dropped a touchdown catch late in the second quarter off a fake spike play by Tom Brady - the irony of a fake spike play coming against the Dolphins was lost on most observers. The half ended with the Dolphins leading 7-6, but the third quarter began a point avalanche by the Patriots, as Brandon Tate ran back the opening kick for a touchdown; following a blocked Dolphins punt the Patriots scored on a BenJarvus Green-Ellis touchdown run.
