Like the Master Chief, Noble 6's face is unknown. See more »

Many of the firearms featured in the game - both Human and Covenant - never existed before the first Halo game, yet made their first introductions in later Halo games, even though Reach is a prequel to the first Halo. Bungie stated that the weapons were "lost" afterwords. The DMR was a prototype for the Battle Rifle See more »

I misjudged it, it is a decent game but it has a few really big problems
2 November 2014 | by WakenPayneSee all my reviews

When I first played Halo Reach I was pumped up for it, but then I found myself not liking it once I played it, Now that Halo 4 was out (and believe me when I say it's the worst of the series) I decided to play it again because in my previous review when I said how bad it was... That was unfair, here if what you're looking for is the most bare-bones story imaginable over some okay albeit fun game-play then this is probably a game you'll like.

So what's the story? You are Noble 6, a Spartan Super Soldier who defends the planet Reach from Alien attacks with the other members of the Noble Squad. But then you find what exactly the Covenant is looking for and you must give it to The Pillar of Autumn to then leave Reach and set the plans of the first game in motion.

Basically, my biggest problem with the game is that as much as I hate Halo 4, there whatever Drama the story has does pull through enough to get minor emotional investment. Here we barely know who these people are. I know Kat's meant to be a tech expert, some other guy carries heavy arms, one's a leader... Do you see my point? All these characters have less then bare bones development - which is not a bad thing if they made it clear that I wasn't meant to give a crap, however - The intentions were the opposite. Although I am being unfair there was one point in the game in which I cared, it was in the cutscene around three levels in when the Spartans find a survivor after an attack - That's it.

The combat is actually not that modern, it kind of makes me wonder why they haven't revamped the control scheme. But anyway the combat is still fun to play through. But there is something worth talking about that hasn't been done in a Halo game - Space Battles, the level where you do this is probably one of the most fun levels in the game. The only thing that would have made it awesome is if you had the option of driving all vehicles in first-person view. However, It's still really fun and I am seriously asking why they didn't make one multiplayer mode of you and your friends shooting down the Covenant in space.

On that note, the multiplayer maps are very small. If you really traced them I don't think the largest ones would be any bigger then a small golf course. However that is redeemed in the Firefight, this mode is my personal favourite multiplayer mode in Halo. Basically you just mow down as many of the bad guys as possible and if you survive, good for you. Although one problem is that if you max out your health and recharge, NOTHING can stop you - I know this because after finding this out I played it on the hardest difficulty and gave all the bad guys the advantages (or "Skulls") and I sat in their line of fire and waited for them to kill me for about 10 minutes and they didn't even slightly drop any of my shields, so only do that if you have an 8 year old who wants to play this game.

So as a completely unbiased view... This game is okay, In terms of sci-fi shooters though it is nowhere near the best nor is it the best Xbox exclusive of 2010. This game is fun if what you're looking for is "Alien invasion" story except this time it's in the future and as usual the multiplayer is worth playing with around 2 other friends but that's around about all there is to this game.
