Storyline

Madrid, 1987 ...is a two-character story with a verbose discourse on writing, journalism, careerism, aging and politics. Shot mostly within a very constricted space, the story follows an older, celebrated journalist Miguel (José Sacristán) who meets the beautiful and coy journalism-student Angela (María Valverde) to give an interview - but becomes intent upon seducing her. They end up spending time in the most unusual manner ...discussing literature, prose and career trajectories ...gradually divulging little insights into their own selves as we start to understand the old journalist's cynicism and the young protégé's intentions. Generations Meet
22 March 2019 | by gudpaljoey-48217See all my reviews

I thought of 'My Dinner with Andre' immediately just as Don DeFore did in his wonderful review for the Hollywood Reporter. This was the story of a seduction, well executed, but one that turned the tables on the protag at the end. This beautifully written and acted film touches many levels of relationship between the sexes, the generations, the cultural and political changes in Spain, and the learned and the hunger for learning. It is a film that wore me out but I enjoyed every moment of it.
