Instead of a prequel about how Frank Martin first became The Transporter. The film is a reboot which ignores the original trilogy starring Jason Statham, as if they never happened and retells the Transporter story.

Frank drives around in an Audi S8 which went on sale in the spring of 2012 (and face-lifted in November 2013) so chronologically speaking the car of choice doesn't make sense. In addition, he seems to be doing a lot of drifting for a vehicle equipped exclusively with a quattro all-wheel drive system. Jason Statham drove a BMW 7-Series (E38) in the first Transporter movie while for the other two sequels he used an Audi A8 W12.

The parking lot scene where Frank Martin is first introduced pays homage to the parking lot scene in The Transporter 2 where Jason Statham's Frank Martin single-handedly neutralises a gang of thieves after a demand to step out of the car at gun point by a scantly-clad girl, who is also working with the gang of thieves.

The fighting scene in the maintenance room in the Full Moon night club pays homage to the fight scene in The Transporter 2 where Jason Staham's Frank Martin uses a fire hose to fight Gianni's henchmen at his estate. However instead of using a Fire House, Ed Skrein's Frank Martin uses the Dyson Vacuum Cleaner's electrical cord which is hung up on the cage of the maintenance room.
