Audio/visual unsynchronised

At the DMV when Flash is finally printing the address of the license plate number, we see an old dot matrix printer. The device is just moving the paper up, but the sound we hear is like when it's printing.

[36:52] After saying "Have fun working with the fuzz" to Nick, Finnick leaves the scene into a side street and starts laughing. From the audiences view, he leaves to the left side and his laughing can be heard from the left side too. Then after a cut onto Judy when she says "Start talking!" the side street is now to the right side, but Finnick's laughter still comes from the left side.

When Nick says that he and Judy have 10 hours left to solve the case, he holds up eight fingers. Naturally, this is because he only has four fingers on each hand. (Judy appears to recognize the incongruity, but immediately dismisses it.)

The film trades upon the misconception that, compared to predators, prey species are fundamentally timid. In fact the most aggressive mammals are not the big cats but large herbivores such as the elephant, buffalo, rhinoceros, and hippopotamus.

In the movie the standard U.S. measurement is used, e.g. the 12h time format or mph for speed. The telephone of Mrs. Bellwether has a display which shows the time "16:01PM". This format is somewhat wrong, because either it is "4:01PM" (12h format, U.S.) or "16:01" (24h format).

Continuity

When Judy is watching the package of Carrots For One in the microwave oven, she is wearing a round neck pink shirt, but when she is about to eat it she is wearing her meter maid uniform again. This is due to a deleted earlier version of this scene, viewable on the DVD, where Judy changed out of her uniform and into more comfortable clothes.

Some environment errors can be seen when Judy examines the Otterton case file. During the examination and conversation with Clawhauser a box of doughnuts on the left side disappears and returns later. Then there is to the right side a name plate together with a coffee mug. The coffee mug changes its position, and later the mug together with the name plate disappear from the counter. In the meantime the adhesive label of the bottle changed its position while Judy is holding it.

Above the entrance of the police academy is a huge sign where we read from the outside "ZOOTROPOLIS POLICE ACADEMY" (or whatever language it is localized into). The sign itself consists of a grid with the attached letters so we can look through the sign. From the inside of the academy when we look onto the sign we should see the writing reversed and the letters from its back, but instead we wrongly read the correct writing.

When the landlady shows Judy to her "luxury apartment" note the position of the vertical deadbolt lock affixed to the front door and jamb, but the next morning when Judy leaves for the ZPD, as she unlocks the door the deadbolt lock has moved higher up on the door and jamb (note wallpaper). Additionally, just as Judy opens the door we can see that although the interior deadbolt is affixed higher, its key cylinder on the exterior side is much lower, which makes no sense, but then the deadbolt is back to normal.

Nick pays Finnick his money after the "pawpsicle" hustle. Before Finnick opens and enters his van Nick is holding one of his "pawpsicle" in his right paw. A few moments later when Finnick drives off the "pawpsicle" is visibly smaller than before, but Nick did not eat from it. While he's paying Finnick it's somewhat questionable how Nick could talk (he's counting the money loudly) and hold the "pawpsicle" in his muzzle at the same time.

In the hospital Judy and Nick enter the hallway with the cages. There are claw marks on the floor in front of a closed cage which contains a tiger, and when Judy lightens the hallway we see sixteen more cages, so we have seventeen cages at all. While the signal lamps of all cages are red, Judy combines that fifteen missing mammals are there (fourteen missing cases and Mr. Manchas). Either the remaining two cages are empty and closed, or they contain more savage mammals and the number of known missing mammals is wrong.

When the doctor and Mayor Lionheart are about to enter the hallway, Judy and Nick run into an open and empty cell - which signal lamp is green -, but a minute ago we have seen all cages closed and with red signals lamps.

Judy runs after Duke Weaselton when he stole a bag of bulbs. When both are about to run towards Little Rodentia we see for a very short time that Judy got very close to Duke. Then after a cut Duke turns around to look behind him, and there Judy has suddenly much more distance to him than before.

These two mistakes are hard to see. Judy meets Nick again on the street to ask him about the Otterton case. Nick goes along the street with Finnick sitting in a stroller, and when Nick declines, Judy drives then onto the sidewalk with a siren bleep in front of Nick to stop him on his way.

We see that the sidewalk has a pattern, and Nick and Finnick are going along the sidewalk upon that pattern and just pass the corner of a house when they are stopped by Judy. A scene cut follows and here Nick and Finnick in the stroller have slightly changed their position on the sidewalk. Additionally in the same two scenes there are small trash cans by the corner of the house, and they also change slightly their positions after the cut.

On Judy's second day she returns stressed out to her car and starts to pound her head on the steering wheel. Suddenly the thief (Duke Weaselton) runs past her and the shop owner follows, stops at Judys car and yells at her that he was just robbed. Judy realizes the situation and looks behind the thief. At this point we can see that Duke has escaped to just over the street and the sidewalk in about eleven seconds in real time(!) since he started his getaway. Within eleven seconds and his running speed it can be expected that he would have reached much more distance to the flower shop than to just over the street.

After Mr. Big has been placed down onto his desk, his chair slightly changes its position towards the edge of the desk and back to its former place during the conversation. This can be best seen at the cracks on the desk between him and the edge.

Then to the left of Mr.Big there lies with a little distance a magnifier on the table. When Nick kisses Mr.Big's ring, the magnifier is suddenly lying behind him.

Factual errors

After Nick cuts off their argument by pointing out that Judy is standing in concrete, the next scene shows her with cement dust on her feet as she steps up to her apartment door. Cement is a component of concrete, but it is mixed in and cannot be separated out like that. Furthermore, they likely would have washed her feet off with a hose after she stepped out, meaning that nothing would be left on her feet. If they hadn't washed it off, it would have stuck to her skin and fur like paste and hardened.

Duke Weaselton escapes into the Little Rodentia district. Right before he slips through the small entrance, he throws the bag of "onions" over the wall while he's still running. From the bird's eye view we see the bag flying with a lot of forward momentum, and Duke stops close to the entrance on the other side and catches the bag which drops vertically into his paws. Both events are wrong, because due to the momentum of the throw the bag would land far behind the entrance and it would also land at an angle.

Judy blackmails Nick into helping her by using his blank tax records against him, even though the very same scene establishes that she has no access to the police records. It's possible that Clawhauser helped her get the records, or Judy was making it all up; she used his "it's called a hustle, sweetheart" quote against him.

If Judy is considered unfit for police duty because of her size, as all cops are large animals, then who polices Little Rodentia? It is policed by rodents. Judy was told to "wait for the real cops" because she is too large to enter and explore Little Rodentia without causing severe damage, as shown in the film.

The character Yax, who doesn't wear clothes, refers to himself and his fellow nudists as "Naturalists" (normally meaning experts or students of natural history), instead of "Naturists" (people who go naked in designated areas). However, the animals at the facility are not simply nudists, but rather animals acting more like their natural counterparts than their anthropomorphous, civilized Zootopia counterparts, so the term "Naturalists" makes sense.

The train has three single doors for animals of different sizes when it picks Judy up, but when it arrives in Zootopia, all of the animals exit through a single set of double doors. Distant shots of the train show that the end cars have double doors and the middle cars have the three single doors, so this is not improbable as Judy may have exited the train from an adjacent car.

Mr. Big sent a limo to pick up Mr. Otterton. Judy only found polar bear fur on the floor of the driver's seat, even though Mr. Manchas, a black jaguar, was driving Mr. Otterton from the naturalist club to Mr. Big. But this is surely not the only time that limo was ever used - the fur could've been shed by one of the polar bears previous to the events of the film.

While an actuary's primary job function is to assess financial and other risks, finding tax deductions in order to minimize financial losses is a part of their job. (Leaving aside, of course, that this is a small child talking about his dream job. Factual accuracy can be a bit erratic.)

The movie is set in an alternative fantasy world where all mammals are self-aware thinking beings who can walk bipedal, speak a common language, have the life expectancy of humans, and do other things that their species can't do in the real world. For this reason, most apparent biological errors should be regarded merely as part of the fantasy. E.g., rabbits living on carrots (which, contrary to popular belief, are "junk food" and not good diets for real rabbits), shrews having only one child per pregnancy, jaguars having eyes and vocal cords typical of other cat species, elephants species having mixed-and-matched tusk patterns, etc. It's all for fun and comedy.

In the movie, Judy says Nick earns $200x365x20=$1,460,000. However, this disregards the fact that there are 5 leap years in 20 years. So Nick should earn $200x(365x15+366x5)=$1,461,000. However, she said 'I think' after making the calculation, so this allows for some margin of error.

Plot holes

It's quite reckless for the districts of Zootopia to allow small rodents to venture outside of Little Rodentia. After Judy catches the onion thief, Chief Bogo wants to see her in his office. He says to her that she performed reckless endangerment of rodents. It's quite hypocritical and double standard to say that to her. Because all over Zootopia and its districts, they allow rodents to drive and walk around larger mammals. They are so small and hard to see that they could be squished.

Revealing mistakes

This is a small error with the UK release of the film. Due to a little known copyright argument, the film was renamed to "Zootropolis" and has had almost every mention of the word "Zootopia" both vocally and visually changed. However, just before Judy is interviewed you see the camera pan over the reporters and Chief Bogo. If you look on the floor it says "pia" as in "Zootopia." It is clear that this texture was not changed to say "Zootropolis" due to its placement, as it would have involved rendering the whole scene again just for this word change.

Despite the fact that the film is named "Zootropolis" in Europe, there is still at least one use of the original title in the film. During Judy's press interview, one of the microphones reads "Zootopia News Network". Then in Judy's first briefing the front board with the attached photos of the missing mammals shows "Zootopia" in the lower right corner. Another writing of "Zootopia" can be seen on Judy's mobile phone when she's showing Nick a photo of Duke Weaselton as part of the "Zootopia Times" after her apology.

From the way the building is falling and the details seen through the window, it appears they are on an upper floor, yet there's a door next to the window. Even if they were on the bottom floor, the door wouldn't be next to the window, as the buildings appear to be apartments, in which case the door would lead to a hall which would then lead outside.

The goof items below may give away important plot points.

Character error

Towards the end of the film, when Dawn Bellwether is revealed as the Night Howler perpetrator, she informs Judy that prey outnumber predators 10 to 1; yet goes on to add prey make up 90% of Zootopia - which would mean they outnumber predators 9 to 1.

During the climax, Bellewether tells Judy and Nick, "I framed Lionheart; I can frame you too." While she did help expose Lionheart's wrongful detaining of the savage mammals, at no point did she make him take the fall for a crime she committed - therefore, it cannot be said that she ever "framed" him.

When he seemingly reverts into a savage predator, the blue spot has disappeared in the closer views when we still see him from his left side. Before he starts his hunt on Judy, there is an overhead shot and the spot is still gone. At the end when Judy and Nick have ended their act the spot on his left side of his neck can be seen again.

Bellwether shows Judy the poster made in which she is the "new face of the ZPD." Judy acts confused and surprised as though she had no knowledge of this decision. While some might think she should be aware of the photo shoot, it is likely the mock-up poster was created using an official photo of her taken at the time she graduated the academy.
