Myortvyy sezon (1968)
In this fictionalized account of Rudolf Ivanovich Abel's exploits in the West, Abel himself introduces the film. In the film, the opening with the Soviet agent being followed in subway is referenced in Bridge of Spies, the magnetic coin used for messaging is shown as well, the lawyer who defends Abel is also presented and eventually there is a scene of prisoner exchange at Glienicke Bridge. However, besides the fictional Abel mission, there are other major differences between the two films. For example, in Myortvoyy sezon, fictionalized Abel is greeted with hugs while in Bridge of Spies he says that it will be a good sign if he gets greeted with hugs after the exchange but instead he is just shown the backseat of a car.
Jaws (1975)
A Volvo 1800 vehicle also appears in the background of a scene in Steven Spielberg's earlier movie Jaws (1975) when the little boy's mother confronts Chief Brody (Roy Scheider) at the dock after the tiger shark is caught. Bridge of Spies (2015) was first released in the 40th Anniversary year of Jaws (1975).
Saving Private Ryan (1998)
After the Donovan household is shot up, a disgruntled police officer confronts James B. Donovan (Tom Hanks) and says, "I was in the third wave on Omaha Beach." The also Steven Spielberg directed earlier movie Saving Private Ryan (1998), which also starred Tom Hanks, whose character, Captain Miller, landed on Omaha Beach.
The Green Mile (1999)
During the scene at dinner, James B. Donovan (Tom Hanks) uses the line, "Every man deserves a defense". This line was also used in another Tom Hanks starring movie, The Green Mile (1999).
