Ok Everybody, Improv!

I have waited nearly a year to write this review because it has taken me so long to come to terms with how poorly this finale was executed. However, I do not believe the problem is with this finale by itself. I think the real problem started with the Pilot episode. I Marlene King started this show without actually knowing how it was going to end -- big mistake! To tell a story, you must know the end first so you know how to write a plot that will get you there. We know this is true because the series just went on and on in so many different directions, and took true fans around in circles.

Lets see, we had twins with Mary & Jessica, Emily & Allison's children, and now Spencer & Alex. YAWN.

Anyone else would have made a better AD than Alex Drake. Melissa Hastings was always my favorite recurring character. Everyone who is anyone knows that Melissa Hastings should have been Uber A. Period. At a minimum, Melissa Hastings should have been the Black Widow revealed in 6x10 "Game Over Charles", but instead it was Sara Harvey (insert eyeroll). I have loved this show since day one, so I will never forgive the directors for not giving Melissa Hastings a larger role. Mona wearing the Melissa mask was cringe worthy. Wren would have also made a great AD. I would have also been fine if Jenna was AD. Actually, I would have even been satisfied if they just brought the whole show in full circle by making Allison Uber A. Why? BECAUSE WE'VE KNOWN THESE CHARACTERS. And not only that, they were all in the pilot. Sigh.

The shows direction was not clear since day one, so all the great recurring characters like Melissa, Wren, Jenna & Lucas never had the chance to be Uber A because the directors just winged it the whole way through. Torrey Devitto and Julian Morris moved on to other projects and tv shows, they didn't have time to wait around for Pretty Little Liars to ask for them back. Sorry Marlene. You're that manager who wants them to stick around part time when they have already found a full time job.

This series finale had more plot holes than swiss cheese. You mean to tell me, that Spencer had an evil twin living in the United Kingdom, worked as a bartender, found out about her and her friends, met Cece Drake, and got jealous and loathed the girls for their perfect lives? Then, when Cece was murdered, she traveled to Rosewood to avenge her death, took on the role of AD, created an intricate board game that looked like it was designed by federal intelligence agency and built a sophisticated underground lair to hold people prisoner when she kidnapped them? Really? Why was Ezra down there? Oh and Alex killed Wren and turned him into a piece of jewelry. No one knows why, she just did. Alex Drake did not have the means or motive to do any of these things.

None of this connected all of the seasons together. This was supposed to fill in all of the plot holes created in earlier seasons, but it did not do that. I almost feel like the entire 7th season (or a good portion of it) should have been devoted to filling in the plot holes from previous seasons. Season 7 more or less should have been the conclusion do the dots connect? They just kept going with more story-line, and at some point we've had enough story, now we just need the chapter that brings it full circle and explains everything. Having Mary be Spencers real mom was so extra.

Oh and I'm supposed to believe that the girls had to play that mastermind board game to lead them to AD, but it took a horse and Jenna Marshall's nose less than a minute to figure out Alex was not Spencer. Gagging.

The first hour was a snooze fest. The wine moms recalled their experience getting trapped in the basement, yet it was still unclear how they got out. "I call it!" Aria got married. For a while I thought AD stood for "Aria's Dress" -- what the hell was that thing? By the way, what was that circus show in the beginning where Lucas was in a top hat and Jenna was on a horse?

The only good part of this episode is at the very end, we see the "police officer" Mona called was not really a cop. He was Mona's French boyfriend, and he helped her capture AD and Mary DiLaurentis so she could hold them captive in her dollhouse. Never change Mona.

Overall, this finale was horrible, and I'll never forget it. This show had so much potential, but the ending was one of the worst I have ever seen. And lets talk about that spinoff at the end. "Have you guys seen Addison? I've looked everywhere, I thought I heard a scream". Yeah ok, good luck girls, CLICK!
