Vicky Kaushal: Right kind of criticism important for actors

In just four years, Vicky Kaushal has tasted critical and commercial success with his commendable performances. He has scored a solo blockbuster with "Uri": The Surgical Strike" and also won the National Award as Best Actor for the film.

Sonam Kapoor: Would love to explore horror, action films

From the time she entered Bollywood in 2007 with "Saawariya", Sonam Kapoor Ahuja mostly courted the limelight as a fashionista and a highly-opinionated person rather than with her acting skills -- till "Neerja" in 2016 changed that opinion for many. While the actress is happy with her career graph, she now wishes to be part of horror and action films.

"I haven't done any action and horror films, so these are the two genres I would love to explore. It would be so different and exciting for me because I haven't done anything on the action. Rishi, Neetu happy to meet Vicky, Boman in NY

Veteran actors Rishi Kapoor and his wife Neetu Kapoor spent some "wonderful moments" with actors Vicky Kaushal and Boman Irani here.

Rishi has been in New York for several months for medical treatment, and film fraternity members are ensuring they meet the couple whenever they are in the city.

After meeting Vicky for the first time, Neetu praised the Uri: The Surgical Strike?actor on Instagram.

'Avengers: Endgame' continues golden run in India

"Avengers: Endgame" has crossed the Rs 300 crore box office mark in India, becoming the first Hollywood film to achieve the benchmark in the country.

According to a statement issued on behalf of the makers, the Marvel Studios film has collected a whopping Rs 372.56 crore (gross box office collection) and Rs 312.95 crore (net box office collection) in just 10 days.

It released in Hindi, English, Tamil, and Telugu across 2,845 screens in India on April 26.

"'Avengers: Endgame' continues to sparkle... Rakes in big numbers on (second) Saturday and Sunday... Adds Rs 50 crore plus in the second weekend, which is remarkable," trade guru Taran Adarsh tweeted.

Now, the Rs 300 crore club in India includes "Pk", "Bajrangi Bhaijaan", "Sultan", "Dangal", "Tiger Zinda Hai", "Padmaavat" and "Sanju", Adarsh pointed out, adding that

"Baahubali 2" (Hindi) is the only film in the Rs 500 crore net club at the Indian box office.

Bollywood fans reacted in shock today at a report that Rajkumar Hirani, one of India’s most successful and acclaimed filmmakers, has been accused by an actress of sexual harassment.

Hirani has denied the allegations and no lawsuit has been filed. He is best known as the director of Hindi language films Munna Bhai M.B.B.S., Lage Raho Munnabhai, 3 Idiots, Pk, and Sanju. The films have won multiple awards in India and are regarding as groundbreaking.

The allegation arises from an alleged series of incidents involving a female assistant director who worked on the 2018 film Sanju, a biopic of Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt that was released in June 2018. The film has since grossed $83 million worldwide and has six nominations at the upcoming Asian Film Awards, including a best director nod for Hirani.

The unidentified woman said Hirani sexually abused her more than once between March and September 2018 during post-production on Sanju.

‘Burning’ Tops Asian Film Awards Nominations
Lee Chang-dong’s smoldering drama “Burning” picked up the largest number of nominations Friday for the 2019 edition of the Asian Film Awards. The Korean adaptation of a Japanese short story was nominated in eight categories, including best film.

Other best film nominees were Pema Tseden’s “Jinpa,” Wen Muye’s “Dying to Survive,” Rajkumar Hirani’s “Sanju,” and Hirokazu Kore-eda’s “Shoplifters.”

The nominations were announced in Hong Kong on Friday afternoon. The prize ceremony will be held in Hong Kong on Sunday, March 17.

Three Indian, two Chinese and one Korean film are among the movies that will compete for the Best Asian Film Award, presented by the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards.

The nine nominees include China’s two hit drama’s “Youth” and “Dying to Survive.” From India, the contenders include breakout “Newton,” as well as psychological drama “Gali Galeiyan,” and “Sanju,” a disarmingly candid exploration of the colorful life of veteran actor Sanjay Dutt.

The list also includes Japanese Cannes Palme d’Or-winner “Shoplifters,” South Korean hit “1987 When the Day Comes,” Taiwan’s “The Bold, The Corrupt, The Beautiful,” and Malaysia’s “Tombiruo.”

The Aacta Awards are a continuum of the AFI Awards, which have honored screen excellence in Australia since 1958. The main awards ceremonies take place in Sydney in early December. A second cycle of Aacta international awards are presented in Los Angeles in January.

Indian filmmaker, producer and television personality, Karan Johar is returning to direction after a hiatus of two years. He will shoot historical epic “Throne” (“Takht”).

Describing the plot, Johar tweeted: “An incredible story embedded in history… An epic battle for the majestic Mughal throne… A story of a family, of ambition, of greed, of betrayal, of love & of succession… Takht is about War for Love….”

The film has an A-list cast. It includes Ranveer Singh (“Padmaavat”), Kareena Kapoor Khan (“Veere Di Wedding”), Alia Bhatt (“Raazi”), Vicky Kaushal (“Sanju”), Bhumi Pednekar (“Toilet – Ek Prem Katha”), Janhvi Kapoor (“Dhadak”) and Anil Kapoor (“Race 3”).
