Dr. Shaun Murphy: I want to be your friend again.

Dr. Aaron Glassman: W-why, Shaun? What happened?

Dr. Shaun Murphy: People need friends.

Dr. Aaron Glassman: Well...

[he snickers]

Dr. Aaron Glassman: Yeah, they do. But you said you wanted me to stop interfering, remember? You wanted space. You wanted to make your own mistakes.

Dr. Shaun Murphy: I need a friend more than I need space. You were a good mentor and a good friend.

Dr. Aaron Glassman: Well, thank you, Shaun. You don't know how much it means to me to hear you say that. But I-I think... I think you may need a new mentor. I'm dying.

Dr. Neil Melendez: Aaron, I am so sorry.

Dr. Aaron Glassman: Me, too.

Dr. Neil Melendez: Is there anything I can do?

Dr. Aaron Glassman: I wish.

Dr. Neil Melendez: You should've told me. Or at least you shouldn't have told him.

Dr. Neil Melendez: I got a patient with DIC. One of the possible causes is surgeon error.

Dr. Aaron Glassman: Your patient, your error?

Dr. Neil Melendez: Shaun's. He got distracted during surgery, spaced out. It's not like him. One place he never misses a beat is the OR. Is there anything going that I should know about?

Dr. Aaron Glassman: He got bad news.

Dr. Neil Melendez: About what?

Dr. Aaron Glassman: It's a personal matter.

Dr. Aaron Glassman: Twelve to eighteen months. I'd appreciate it if you didn't tell anyone, okay? I-I will in my own time.

Dr. Shaun Murphy: Okay. Have you had a full work-up?

Dr. Aaron Glassman: Yes, of course.

Dr. Shaun Murphy: It could be a secondary tumor metastasized to your brain from somewhere else.

Dr. Aaron Glassman: It's the only tumor found.

Dr. Shaun Murphy: It could be an inflammatory or infectious process.

Dr. Aaron Glassman: It was a tumor, Shaun.

Dr. Shaun Murphy: You should get a second opinion.

Dr. Aaron Glassman: Shaun, I've been a neurosurgeon for 30 years. I think that qualifies as a second opinion.
