Kat Dennings Comedy ‘Dollface’ Ordered to Series at Hulu
Hulu has given a series order to the comedy “Dollface” starring Kat Dennings.

The streamer has given the series a 10-episode order. It follows a young woman (Dennings) who, after being dumped by her longtime boyfriend, must deal with her own imagination in order to literally and metaphorically re-enter the world of women, and rekindle the female friendships she left behind.

Dennings will also executive produce in addition to starring. Jordan Weiss created the series and will also executive produce. Ira Ungerleider will serve as showrunner with Margot Robbie and Brett Hedblom and Tom Ackerley of Robbie’s LuckyChap banner executive producing as well. Clubhouse PicturesBryan Unkeless and Scott Morgan are executive producers along with Nicole King and Stephanie Laing. Matt Spicer directed the pilot and is an executive produce. ABC Signature Studios produces.

‘Dumb People Town’ Animated Comedy Based On Podcast From Sklar Bros & Will Arnett Gets YouTube Presentation Order

YouTube has ordered a presentation for animated half-hour comedy Dumb People Town based on the Sklar Brothers hit podcast, from Randy and Jason Sklar, Daniel Van Kirk, Will Arnett’s Electric Avenue, Artists First and Sony Pictures TV, where Electric Avenue is under a deal.

It is part of YouTube’s (and all major streaming platforms’) push into adult animation. YouTube’s first full-length adult animated comedy series, Dallas & Robo, premiered on its Premium service earlier this year.

Written and executive produced by the Sklar brothers, Van Kirk and Julius Sharpe, Dumb People Town centers around a family in a Florida town struggling with the most important question of our times: Is it better to be dumb and happy? Or smart and miserable?

Arnett and Marc Forman executive produce via Electric Avenue along with Peter Principato and Joel Zadak via Artists First. Sony Pictures TV is distributing the project.

YouTube Originals scripted development and current programming executive Amanda Barclay will tell attendees at the Screen Forever conference how the independent production sector can leverage opportunities from the global YouTube Originals platform.

The Us-based Barclay specialises in scripted development of new features and series in addition to maintaining day-to-day oversight of current productions.

Since joining the platform in 2015 she has shepherded the development of numerous series including 12 Deadly Days, Good Game,Youth & Consequences, Dallas & Robo and the upcoming Wayne and Champaign III.

Before she that she spent two years at MTV supporting the scripted and unscripted development teams as executive assistant to the president of programming and worked as an assistant at the Gersh Agency.

Kirsten Dunst-Led Dark Comedy From Producer George Clooney Scores Series Order at YouTube Premium
YouTube Premium has given a series order to the dark comedy “On Becoming a God in Central Florida,” Variety has learned.

Kirsten Dunst stars in and executive produces the series, with George Clooney and Grant Heslov executive producing via their Smokehouse Pictures banner.

The show, which was previously in development at AMC, is described as a darkly comedic tale about the cult of free enterprise and one young woman’s relentless pursuit of the American dream. Set near Orlando in the early 1990s, the show centers on Krystal Gill (Dunst), a minimum-wage-earning water park employee who will eventually scheme her way up the ranks of Founders American Merchandise: the cultish, flag waving, multi-billion dollar pyramid scheme that drove her family to ruin. YouTube has ordered a 10-episode first season, which is slated to debut in 2019.

The series was co-created by Robert Funke and Matt Lutsky, who will executive produce in addition to writing.

Kat Dennings, John Cena Get Animated As ‘Dallas & Robo’ Arrives On YouTube Premium

YouTube Premium's latest play for the adult animation crowd has arrived. Dallas & Robo, which stars the voices of Kat Dennings and John Cena as its titular space travelers, can be found on the official YouTube channel of the WWE. To watch all eight of its episodes, you'll need a subscription to YouTube Premium (formerly known as YouTube Red), which costs $12 per month.

Dallas & Robo, which was announced last year, comes from Shadowmachine, the studio known for its work on adult animation fare like Bojack Horseman and Robot Chicken. This time, the production company is telling the story of a trucker named Dallas (voiced by Dennings) and her robotic sidekick (Cena) as they embark on intergalactic adventures. As is typical with YouTube Premium shows, the first episode of Dallas & Robo is available for free, but the others have been placed behind the $12 paywall.

Animated YouTube Red Comedy Starring John Cena To Debut On May 30

Animated comedy series Dallas & Robo just got its YouTube Red debut date. It will premier on the subscription service on May 30.

In the meantime, the show has released images of its two main characters. Robo, played by actor/wrestler John Cena, looks like a broad-shouldered, red robot wearing a cowboy hat. Trucker Dallas, voiced by Kat Dennings of Two Broke Girls, wears a trucker hat and a vest very similar to the one Michael J. Fox wears as Marty McFly in Back to the Future.

All eight Dallas & Robo episodes will become available on May 30 on the WWE’s YouTube channel. Exclusive: Wadjda writer-director Haifaa Al-Mansour, Saudi Arabia’s trailblazing first female filmmaker, is setting up female empowerment animation Miss Camel at La-based animation hub ShadowMachine, producer of Netflix’s BojackHorseman and Cartoon Network’s Robot Chicken.
