How Victoria Mahoney Became the First Female 'Star Wars' Director (Guest Column)

How Victoria Mahoney Became the First Female 'Star Wars' Director (Guest Column)
Thursday night. November 2017. I was tucked away in a rented house secretly writing a TV pilot based on Octavia Butler's novel Dawn. Patty Jenkins had called that morning to ask if I'd like to direct two episodes of her and Sam Sheridan's series One Day She'll Darken after a fierce competition for the job. Between these two adventures, I genuinely didn't want for anything. I was creatively filled to the brim.

Then an email comes from a director I deeply respect, asking if we can chat. Around 8 a.m. the following morning, the phone rings....

‘Ninja Squad’ Board Game Review

  • Nerdly
Ninja Squad is a real game of two halves, with the first fifteen to twenty minutes played as a cooperative game on one side of the board, and the second, slightly quicker half being a competitive race that takes place on the other side. Thematically, the players each act as one of up to four ninjas tasked with defeating an evil shogun, but in practice it seems that once the job is done, it’s every ninja for themselves!

The board for both halves of the game is long and thin, comprising of several separate boards aligned end to end. The objective in both sequences of play is to get your ninja from one end of the board to the other, all the while either avoiding guards, knocking them unconscious or, in the unfortunate event that they catch you, by dispatching them. Ninjas prefer stealth over all else and smart

New Planet Of The Apes Movie In Development At Disney With Wes Ball Attached

The apes are on the march again, it seems.

We’ve witnessed the Rise, experienced the Dawn and trembled before the all-out War, but The Hollywood Reporter today brings word that Disney and Fox are developing a new Planet of the Apes movie with Wes Ball (The Maze Runner) in the director’s chair.

It’s unclear as yet whether this project is being angled as a continuation of the previous series, or a total reboot. Either way, it will be the first Fox IP to be overhauled since Disney’s acquisition of the studio and its lucrative assets. One thing’s for sure: this THR scoop underlines the fact that Wes Ball’s Planet of the Apes movie is in the very early stages of development, so don’t expect any tangible update until the new year.

Having guided the Maze Runner franchise to a $949M global tally, Wes

Star Wars: Episode IX Rumored To Have A Pretty Bleak Title

It’s a very popular prediction right now that the official title for Star Wars: Episode IX will be revealed by the end of the month, not least because The Last Jedi had its own title reveal in the January that preceded its release. But until the name of J.J. Abrams’ next film has been heard from an official source, fans will continue to offer their best guesses, and thanks to one anonymous Redditor, we may or may not have a few hints to help us in our speculation.

User PlanetOfMisfitSoldrs claims inside knowledge on Episode IX and its tie-in merchandise, and while they say it’s “too risky” at this point to outright give away the title, they do offer some clues. Specifically, it’s said that Lucasfilm is trying to evoke a feeling of hopelessness with the film’s new subtitle, meaning that anyone who’s predicting a
