Lainey Lewis finds real employment as the school's music teacher
10 January 2019 | by Ed-ShullivanSee all my reviews

Schooled has seamlessly moved into the time slot immediately after The Goldbergs to which Lainey Lewis (AJ Michalka) was first introduced to us as the love of Barry Goldberg's high school life. In this new series Lainey Lewis has now grown up in the past decade and the series takes place in the 1980's. Now as an adult, Lainey finds a job at her old high school as the music teacher to gain real employment for the first time.

I am not sure if the producers intend to make Schooled a clone of the Goldbergs or more of a stand-alone comedy series. In the opening episode there are a few of the same characters that appear in both the Goldbergs as well as in Schooled. For example Coach Mellor (Bryan Callen) is still coaching basketball and he lends a helping hand to the new kid/teacher Lainey Lewis on teaching her what feels good in her heart and turn off the background noise. The principal, Mr. Glascott (Tim Meadows) is also at the school and there are cameos by Earl Ball (Stephen Tobolowsky) and even crazy hair and sweater mom Beverly Goldberg (Wendi McLendon-Covey). Now the Goldberg stars may be making periodic appearances just to ensure that the fan base of the Goldbergs don't turn the channel too soon.

Time will tell if Lainey Lewis (A J Michalka) can find a home of her own in this new TV series Schooled but I for one will hang in there for a few more episodes and see what this new school year brings in the form of family entertainment and light comedy.
