Animal Kingdom (2016)
Watching this a guilty pleasure
I shouldn't really like this show. My IQ is around 150, for 7 years of my life I have been harassed about my morals and sexuality and vices, but I really enjoy the dysfunctional family and what holes they dig themselves in. From a top down perspective, it is obvious this show shows the worst aspects of life in the USA. Crime fuelling consumerism, drink, soft drugs, hard drugs, corruption, vices, more vices, so called sins, but the small cast always keeps you wanting more. All the brothers are flawed, and yet I love every one. Smurf on the surface seems to be evil and controlling and corrupting, the Devil if you like, but even her childhood clearly influenced her. I don't usually like shows with quick editing and lots of short scenes, but here it worked, and I enjoyed seeing the camera move between the small cast. I think religious people would hate this show, I have my own religion, and clearly in terms of inter stellar colonization, I'd never let this leave the Planet Earth, but as I am trapped here with amnesia awaiting my death, I can at least enjoy people smoking a joint, when I cannot.
War was a misleading title
There is an alarming trend in Hollywood, think if you throw 150 million dollars at a film, it has to be good! War was the most misleading title I have ever seen. I stopped watching this drek after 1 hour. 1 hour of my life wasted. Knowing incredibly there was still over an hour to go. And for what? The whole Caesar ends up in a concentration camp with his Apes could have been done in 30 minutes and hey presto! The movie could have been 1 and a half hours of more concise story-line. I saw other people saying the writers had copied other films and I agree. The whole Caesar sets out to find the Colonel and kill him picking up 2 sidekicks along the way Lord of the Rings and another thousand movies. By the time I stopped watching, I couldn't care for the Apes or the humans. Caesar especially became more and more annoying. The first part of the movie the attack by Special Forces annoying, after 15 years most of the Apes still carry spears. Despite being able to climb trees easily and post sentries, the humans still crept up on their base. And how were they wiped out, by a sudden storm of hundreds of perfectly arced spears falling into their midst. Looking back most of the movie was boring and annoying, it's a real shame because I enjoyed movies one and two. And as other people have said, how on Earth did this get a rating of 8 out of ten? Even with lovers, this movie doesn't deserve more than a 6 out of ten. Once again, the majority of 100 IQ reviewers misled me into watching drek designed for people of 100 IQ and less. Are humans just Apes?
Shot Caller (2017)
A real gem of a movie
A real surprise, I remember watching the review for this movie on IMDb a month or two before, I kind of remembered it had a rating of 6.5 and was a about a convict released from jail who went straight back into a life of crime. This movie was so much more. The main character from Game of Thrones blew me away. The change just in his appearance from stockbroker to hardened white supremacist gang member was amazing, I actually thought they were two different characters! Nothing in this movie was obvious, all the way to the end, and I was left with the thoughts what exactly was going on in his head? The motivations for his actions were slowly explained and believe you me the plot twist at the end was incredible. This movie deserves it rating of 7.5 out of 10. I gave it an 8, but compared to so much dross out there I could easily have given it an excellent 9 out of 10. Much has been said about the affects of prison life on people and this movie excellently explained the dangers of locking up basically not evil or criminal minds and how they get sucked in further and warped and twisted. I recommend this movie to anyone who likes prison movies and gang movies and revenge movies!
Wind River (2017)
Really nice simple thriller
Wind River is one of those low budget movies like Hell or High Water that are a pleasure to watch. I am amazed it was the same writer and first time director Sheridan. I am also amazed with the cast including Renner's excellent depiction of the father out to get his revenge for his daughter. The movie never got boring for me, there were some excellent scenes in it, including the crime itself which was harrowing. The movie ended with a nice sense of closure and I'm sure everyone would be pleased with the main evil character's death. If Sheridan can continue to write with such superb words all his movies will be highly praised. I sort of hope he doesn't sell his soul to Hollywood and end up becoming an A list writer or director. By the end up the movie the sheer feat of this young girl running 5 miles barefoot through minus 20 degree weather really comes through to you, and you really feel for the parents and hope their lost son, comes back to them.
An interesting movie that kept me going to the end
There are a whole host of really bad reviews for this movie. Personally I enjoyed, if I had read all the negatives I wouldn't have done. What interests me about this story, is the story behind galactic colonization. The fact that just one micro-organism on a new planet could be harmful for human life and the dangers that presents. Yes, it was essentially an Alien clone, but I thought it was well done. The Alien was suitably dangerous to the point of being over the top, but that added to the suspense of the movie. I didn't see the end twist coming and it was a pleasant surprise. The actors were great, no they didn't spend huge amounts of time on them, but as the star was the Alien lifeform I don't see so many negatives coming from people. Special effects were great, and the movie never lagged or got boring for me. I watched Star Trek Beyond for 30 minutes before switching off in disgust, yes I'll probably re-watch Alien and Aliens again because of this, classic movies. This wasn't a classic, but I still rate it as good and give it a seven out of ten.
Good series, trailed off a little at the end
I really enjoyed Fargo the TV series, series 1 and 2 were amongst the best TV dramas I have ever watched. I felt Season 3 was the weakest, and I see the creative mind behind it Noah Hawley is concentrating on his sub par series Legion from now. So 3 seasons seems to be the end. Even Season 2 had its moments, but Season 1 and 2 were superb. I speak of Noah Hawley because he seems to have lost the plot a bit. Legion started off well and totally lost it, as far as I am concerned, and even in Season 3, he introduced some supernatural unexplained events, that for me didn't work well whatsoever and added nothing to the story, but a moment of wondering, what on Earth is happening here ? But for anyone new thinking about watching, overall I would give a big thumbs up. Like True Detective and its mind blowing Season 1, I guess we couldn't expect the sheer genius to last, but even Season 3 despite not being near as good as Season 1 and 2, was still entertaining. And in a way, I'm glad this was the last season.
The Shack (2017)
Sums up why Christainity should be consigned to garbage
First off, let me say I was, like many of other millions of Children in the Western World brainwashed by Christianity. God exists, God is kind, God sees all, blah, blah, blah. Jesus was God's son, he walked on water, turned water into wine, healed people, spoke in parables, preached to 10,000 people in a rock concert and fed them with 2 loaves of bread and 3 rancid, desiccated fish.I have come a long way in my 47 years of life on this planet. I an well aware that all of us evolved out of Africa 1 million years ago. I am well aware there are 500 billion galaxies and billions of intelligent species scattered throughout the Universe. I am well aware as an animal there is no afterlife. What The Shack, the book and the movie are trying to do is an affront to the Universe. I personally think the Universe might have been created by powers beyond are imagining, but don't think for a second, they are ever going to interfere or do anything to stop humanity from making themselves extinct. Religious people are brainwashed sheep, doesn't make one difference to me, whether gullible Muslims think Mohammed actually spoke to the Arch Angel Gabriel, angels don't exist and are religious fantasies the same as dragons. Jesus was never, ever the son of God and was a man, who we have not one single proof of what he said or did in his life. The quicker the whole world wakes up to the fact that God/Gods/CREATORS of this Universe don't care one bit about what people do on this planet the better. I'll sum my message to you. 10% of the people on this planet own 90% of the wealth. Therefore if God was remotely interested in making the world a better place, it would strike down all of them. Adolf Hitler caused a war that killed over 50 million people, if God was remotely interested it would have given Hitler a heart attack when we was 30 years old. Enough said.
Berlin Syndrome (2017)
Couldn't hold my interest
I have to admit, I didn't watch this movie to the end. Because frankly I was bored by a half hour in, realizing I still had an hour and a half to go. Perhaps it was the nature of the story that has been done before in some ways, many times in horrors and thrillers - pretty young girl is locked up and kept captive by a psychopath/sociopath and just can't seem to escape. I found myself wondering why on Earth didn't she attempt to break the panels of the door down? And perhaps she did later on in the movie. I have read other reviews, and perhaps I should have watched this to the end, but as I say I was just bored. I guess the only warning about this movie is don't have sex with strangers or go to their houses. If the running time and cat and mouse game had been a total of an hour and a half, I might have watched it to the end, but 2 hours seemed way too long for as I said earlier a fairly generic thriller.
Black Butterfly (2017)
Great movie with a small cast - just 2 men !
I really enjoyed Black Butterfly, it was one of those movies that you kind of knew what was happening next, and then things turned out very differently. The 2 main characters were very well acted. I know a negative reviewer was saying alcoholics don't swig out of bottles, well as an alcoholic, I can tell you that was true to life, as was the early morning drinking, and blanking out and waking up in bed. The movie had a great location a secluded ranch style house and the tension was palpable almost from the start. I promise you, the ending was amazing and totally unexpected and a pleasant surprise. Overall a low budget movie which I enjoyed far more than Star Trek Beyond which cost $180 million dollars and which I refused to watch to the end. I am quite critical with movies, read my other reviews. This film is definitely worth viewing with pleasure and interest.
Get Out (2017)
Get Out is one of those gems, a horror film that manages to be highly original and unpredictable. I honestly didn't know what to expect next, all the way to the end, when I expected a horrible ending, we had a classic quote from one of the good guys. People were saying this film was racist, I didn't get that vibe at all, apart from saying that black people have extremely good genes. It was funny in parts, but mostly eerie with constant bad emotions running through it, from the start with the accident with the deer. As I said, I didn't know any of the storyline, and this made the film so much better. Go into it like me without researching it, and just go on a horror ride. As I said the ending was a joy, but it was a nail biting ride to the finish. Acting was wonderful, the cast did an excellent job of creating a weird suburban nightmare with scientific tones along with pure horror. In short a must see film, for it's budget I'm glad to see it making a lot at the box office. Horror is really suffering at the moment, few new ideas and loads of low budget movies getting average ratings of 4 out of ten, which tells you avoid it at all costs. This movie is a classic! And I want to add, this is the first film in ages that I have watched, then the next night gone back and watched it again to pick up things I had missed the first time. I have read some of the negative reviews on racism, it's racist against blacks, it's racist against whites. This is a horror/thriller film , it's not meant to be read into too deeply! I want to add Chris the main character in the film really did act excellently, you could sense his growing unease with everything with every facial and tonal change in him. Once again, ignore the haters, this was definitely one of the best horror films in ages.
Better than I expected
I tried to watch The Conjuring 2 - and switched off bored after 1:15 hours, so considering this movie was 1:40 I was pleasantly surprised. There is no way this deserves only 1 or 2 stars. The acting and directing was fine. The story seemed to me to be logical and I had no problem following the plot. I thought the whole biology experiment to be pretty cool and it was a movie with a sense of doom about it, even if it wasn't scary. Perhaps it wasn't horror persay, more like as some people have said a sort of mystery with Samarra's story told in detail, and I liked the plot twist at the end. Would I have paid $10 to see it at the movie theatre ? Probably not. But that being said, I enjoyed the movie, not a classic, not as scary or creepy as Ring 1 or Ring 2. But still worth watching. I think some people get mad if they see a movie which doesn't blow their mind and give it 1 or 2 stars. I felt the same with the latest Star Trek movie, I didn't even finish watching that and it had a budget of 200 million dollars ! Give it a try, you might be pleasantly surprised.
Started off really good, but....
I really enjoyed the first few episodes of Legion. Interesting story, a mutant with incredible powers, rescued by other mutants, etc. But I have to say after watching episode 6, I was beginning to become irritated. We had at least 40 minutes of the episode inside the characters mind again, focused on the mental hospital again, knowing this isn't the real word again, etc. The dream sequences and flashbacks and psychological hocus pocus just were not satisfying me at all. I wanted to get back to the real world, the real story and find out what had happened in the characters old childhood house. It is a shame really, as I was enjoying this series, but if this continues I will have to bow out gracefully. Sometimes, I think scriptwriters get too caught up in their own imagining and think what is clever or interesting for them is going to engage the viewer. We already had almost an entire episode with the character in his Astral Plane, meeting up with the head mutants husband who for some reason had lived there for 20 or so years, and this episode was stroppy and distracting enough. To be honest I don't know whether I will finish episode 6 and go on to episode 7, and hope this sort of dream sequence episodes aren't going to ruin the series altogether for me. I changed my rating to 5 out of 10, and have decided to leave the series for good after reading some other reviews. I agree with the negatives, Jessica Jones and Daredevil are super examples of how to do Super hero shows. I love both of them. Upon thinking more deeply, I agree with others, 6 episodes in, I was actually caring less and less for all main characters, seriously, anybody who really enjoyed episode 6 of season one should have their brain checked, it was boring, it was pretentious, it added nothing to the story, I couldn't care how some Mum's died. I couldn't care they were back in the mental hospital again. As a person diagnosed with schizophrenia and has been in a mental hospital it was just an insult. I seriously urge potential viewers to avoid this series. It will leave you frustrated and just wishing the story would stick to the main plot - and that is the whole point. What on earth was the main plot ? Getting rid of the devil with yellow eyes ? Beating the evil government employees who wanted to enslave mutants ? Saving the Dr's husband from another 25 years in the Astral Plane ? Deciding whether the main hero was schizophrenic ? I could go on and on. I only started watching this series due to the high ratings, and clearly there is a fan base out there, but I honestly do see why this deserves to have a second season.
A good psychological thriller
I cannot believe people giving this movie one or two stars out of ten. The box office and ratings speak for themselves. This was superbly acted by James Mcavoy, I was amazed at how he could almost seemingly be different people during the movie. We only saw a few main characters of his disorder. People complained about mental health, well every horror and thriller has someone involved with mental health issues. People complained about the girls not escaping easily, as far as I was concerned the clichés of the kidnap genre were not blaring obvious at all. I was very sceptical when I saw the running length almost 2 hours, and yet I found the pacing and plot to be involved enough. The finale was terrifying and mind blowing and realistic, and I was on the edge of my seat rooting for everyone involved. People have panned the director, but I think this movie was up there with 6th Sense. The kidnap scenario has been done to death in horror movies, but this movie managed to be so much more. In short, I was almost disappointed the movie ended, and would have liked to see another half hour of the beast in charge along with Dennis and Patricia. There was no sex, no gore, no real violence, and I agree this wasn't really a horror movie. It was a trip into a severely disturbed mind and a happy ending (sort of) for some of the characters.
The dangers of Sentient AI
I loved the first season of Westworld. I recently wrote a short book on World Government, and in that book I pinned a lot of hope on Sentient AI beings to change the world and create FTL Starships. I was so optimistic I wrote we should create 200 million of them to educate the World's children. After several weeks of reflection, I had changed my plans entirely, and said that if we do create AI, it should never be given a body or be allowed access to the internet, as the dangers were too great. All it would take is one AI being going against humanity to destroy us with a virus or global holocaust. So Westworld for me, is a good example of why the future creators of Sentient AI should be very, very careful. I am now in love with Dolores, gutted that Ford died at the end of Season 1. And I am wondering with great anticipation just what Season 2 will bring. Can it possibly be better than Season 1 ? I rated this a solid 10/10, as far as I am concerned Westworld isn't just a drama about robots in a Western setting, it makes you question everything about life, your life and it's meaning - what makes us human, and what and how would we treat a sentient AI being. Every episode was great, every reveal was amazing, and the ending of Season 1 completely blew my mind. If you haven't watched Westworld - then do it now!
I enjoyed the pilot
There are quite a few bad reviews for this pilot episode of Shooter, and I don't quite realize why. I am a big man of a well made series and also quite picky and critical. Very few series can maintain my interest for a long time, Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, Dexter, Boardwalk Empire, Hannibal are just a few I have stuck to right to the end. However, as movies are so badly made these days, Star Trek Beyond anyone? I have to admit I enjoyed the pilot. I think Ryan Philippe was fine, he didn't appear too young to be a seasoned vet. I thought the family angle was endearing and added to the torment of what is about to happen to him. I watched the 2007 movie Shooter with Mark Wahlberg and I also think it was a very good movie that deserved a higher rating. Many people have talked about the series of books that movie and this series are based upon. If the series follows the book (I presume), and the movie then we kind of know what to expect from the following episodes, but even then I don't care. It will be interesting to see if they can maintain the suspense and action for 10 or so episodes. Sure, perhaps nine out of ten is too high a rating, but clearly there were haters out there slating this pilot and giving it two or three stars which is just unfair. I am also pleased that clearly right from the start the producers are saying this is just one season and not going to be drawn out and become ridiculous like Prison Break, and personally I have felt the same with Gotham, The Flash and the 100 (although season two was excellent, season three made me leave). So sure we know what to expect from the coming episodes, a lot of running, a lot of conspiracy theories, a lot of Swagger digging for the truth, and I am fine with that, if they keep up the production values and dialogue, and the directing was fine.
Cold Deck (2015)
Full of plot holes with unlikeable characters
I had to edit this review at my absolute disgust at the IMDb rating of 8 out of 10 given to this lacklustre, clichéd movie. The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948) got 8.3/10 -a masterpiece. It is disgraceful that people are blatantly lying on this website and falsely boosting the ratings to make people think this is some poker genre masterpiece. I have changed my rating to one, to express my annoyance. First off, I was pleased and thanked God this movie only ran for 80 minutes, it was an extremely flimsy attempt at cashing in on the whole poker genre.
The story line was extremely weak with no substance. Similar to the movie The Gambler, we are introduced to a complete loser, a loser so bad, he steals his mother's life savings in order to play in a high stakes poker game. He loses of course to the owner of a gambling club where he has lost all his money. This guy (Paul Sorvino) wins $250,000 that night, is a rich man, but somehow persuades the loser to break into the game later and steal the $250,000 on offer, for which he will get $100,000. Are you getting this ? You take all the risk, break the law, risk getting killed or arrested and then after, hand over $150,000 to somebody who suggested you should do a robbery ! No sense at all. This loser has a smoking hot blonde babe girlfriend ,who loves him despite being a total loser, a mum who forgives him. A deceased dad who was a loser gambler as well. The finale was ridiculous in so many ways, somehow everyone dies, and he just escapes scot free from the situation in order to reform himself and suddenly decide to enrol in college and do a degree in electrical engineering or something. No questions about his debts, his mother's huge medical bills and nursing costs. No, just one big happy ending. Personally, I would have been happier to see the guy die. As before I give this movie 1/10 for the blatant lies of reviewers trying to boost this movies ratings.
True Detective: Omega Station (2015)
A good 2nd outing in the series
I binged watched the second series over 2 days, which I think was the best way to enjoy this series. All the facts and characters were fresh in my mind. I agree with other reviews, this wasn't as mind blowing as the first season, but I still enjoyed it. I thought the acting was great, even Vince Vaughn out of his comfort zone doing comedies did a great job, and I really felt for him at the end. Same for Colin, the ending came as quite a shock to me. Like other reviewers, I hope the 3rd season improves on this one, but boy did season one set the bar impossibly high. Overall I liked the story of corruption going all the way to the top of society and mankind's depravity and lust and greed. We get the world we deserve, a great line and very true, if you look around you, at the state of the world today. I am totally convinced the only way to improve human society is to end capitalism and introduce a money free world. That of course might never happen. Another descent into the dark side, and I enjoyed the ride.
Had some good moments, but also many negatives
Fortitude was a mixed bag for me. I did finish watching the whole of Season One, but frankly found it a bit of an effort. I won't really say, what the whole storyline was, but I guess it was interesting enough a premise for me to continue to the end. I honestly found it, a hard slog at times. I don't know if it was the editing, acting, directing, or writing but Fortitude just didn't gel for me. There were frequent moments when I thought ' what is going on?' Someone described this as a psychological thriller. I didn't see any real psychology, I didn't see any thriller elements. Ultimately I just didn't get it. I can see from other reviews, that some people loved this. And they must be keenly awaiting Season Two. I felt Season One was dragged out to the hilt. And honestly, what other big interesting secrets can be waiting in Season Two? Ultimately the location was one of the best things about this series. Acting, writing, editing ,and directing were I felt very average.
Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)
A travesty of the original Mad Max movies
I will be honest with readers. I only really watched the first 30 minutes of this Hollywood blockbuster. What I did do before I settled down to watch it, was look at the rating on IMDb. 8.6 out of 10!! This must be great, like many other reviewers, I believe my low rating is a reaction to the absolute travesty that many movies are being rated so highly. The original Mad Max movies had a young and charismatic, unknown Australian actor called Mel Gibson in them. They had some plot and believability. This had so much money thrown at it, supposedly around $150 million, that the whole world view of Mad Max was gone. Hundreds of vehicles driving around in the desert. A community of thousands, with clearly no problem with water or food, even though the baddie turns on the water and lets in pour into the sand and then turns it off, and tells his people not to become addicted to water ??? Words are failing me, to describe how badly I feel. Any young people out there reading this, should watch Mad Max 1-2, skip the Hollywood version, thunderdome. Honestly, once again left speechless with the true awfulness of this film.
Absolute garbage in a can
I am seriously starting to wonder, where are all these good reviews and reviewers coming from ? I mean to say, I watched 30 minutes of this awful, cheap, terribly acted, even worse dialogue sci-fi movie and was left bored and depressed. Nothing made sense, right from the start, all the characters were cheesy cardboard cut outs of who real people actually are. Lawyers and people who got into Princeton University, and then act and talk with IQ's of 70. Point a gun at someone, take them prisoner and your response ? 'I'm going to kill you !!!' You are in a parallel universe, kidnapped and taken hostage, you are with your sister, and the reaction is that ! Come on. People are gushing over this idea, many Earth's ! Not original at all, a theme explored many times before, and much better, by many films and books. I am so glad, this terrible premise for a TV series failed. It will save this Earth from yet another terrible Sci-Fi drama.
Twists and turns, until the very end !
There have been quite a few movies based on planes, and this was definitely one of the better ones. As a man who has been classified as a paranoid alcoholic myself, I felt very strongly for the character Liam Neeson was portraying. The confusion and paranoia was evident throughout the movie, as the minutes ticked by, and more people died. Right up to the very end, you didn't know how it was going to turn out. Considering the whole movie was set on a plane, the director, actors, and script were all excellent in giving us a mystery, as to who or what was involved. It reminded me in a funny way of a film noir, or cold war thriller, the paranoia was very real and intense and the enemy was unseen and mysterious.I gave this movie a nine, for very close to perfection.
Best watched at night in the dark !
I have watched a lot of horror movies in my life. This one, at first seems to have a generic storyline. THE GHOST IN THE MIRROR !! However, the flashbacks between youth and adulthood, and the quality of the acting and script were first rate. I watched this in the afternoon, and I was still freaked out !! It reminded me in a way of the Amityville Horror, the degeneration of a family into madness caused by supernatural evil. And of course a little bit of Stephen King's IT, with the youth making a promise to come back and destroy the evil. The ending was not foreseen, and was another shock. There were loads of creepy moments in the movie, and I have to say that overall, I was elated that good horror movies are still being made amongst the dross that deserve no more than a 3-5 rating.
Cowboys & Aliens (2011)
Clichéd, generic, badly written thriller
Oh boy, months waiting for a movie to come out and when it does it just feels kinda tame. There is something to be said for certain clichés, unfortunately for a cliché to really pay it has to be superbly acted. We also have to really care about the results of this acting. For example, Harrison Ford's character comes across as a racist, grumpy, greedy idiot. Result, he would have been better off being killed off in the first Alien attack on the village. Daniel Craig was an all but two dimensional hard man, without an Inner city Glasgae twang or a real sense of uncontrolled violence to really bring it off (hint stick to James Bond). This is a man who ran an outlaw gang of 30 men? He wakes up with a bracelet of fire on his wrist. Like an RPG game, but instantly giving away the fact that he had been already 'abducted' and no doubt rectally probed by the evil aliens. The aliens view us as insects...despite in 1876 or whatever already possessing weapons that can kill them. These aliens presumably all have awesome blasty bracelets of mass destruction but when it comes to an all-out attack on their mother spaceship - remember they are a scouting group for the whole civilization which is a gazillion light years away - respond by streaming out of their ship in the buff, yes with no arms or armor on. One would think a civilization 20,000 years ahead of us, could have designed some pretty amazing weaponry and tactics for dealing with the upset locals. The plot they were here for gold was no more interesting than any other movie, aliens are always here for some resource or other but never for peaceful trade. The movie got really ridiculous when Olivia Wilde suddenly 'came out' and admitted she as an alien too, but a shape shifting sort who could possess bodies, she was hot, and wow! We even got a screen kiss, but really. Questions could literally jump out of your brain, where did she come from? How did she get to earth? Didn't she realize it was unethical of her to possess another being, or was it okay being she was the town whore. I not saying this was a complete wash out, clearly the budget was there, but so unmemorable. A sad waste of vital resources. Once again Hollywood fails to impress. Hate to say these words, but currently I am playing Skyrim on the PS3. Awesome game, and an example of why games are taking over from the movie market. If Hollywood can't do better, a whole generation of younger people are going to seek out video games as a much more satisfying way to spend 2 hours on a Monday evening.
Incredibly inane - worse if you are a man with IQ 100 +
I had high hopes for this movie, it being touted as a female friendly Hangover movie. I was disappointed with Hangover II, and thought this would be more fresh. How wrong i was.... What really really annoyed me in the movie was the part in the engagement party where the two women were gushing over each other to speak, they changed places like a gazillion times, and kept talking, and talking, until the slightest humor of the occasion was completely gone. As far as I was concerned a lot of the other jokes just fell flat. I couldn't even tell if it was women writing these awful lines or men, giggling insanely as they attempted to make women just seem dumb, stupid, manipulative, bitchy, and so so. I haven't finished the movie yet, I got to half way. That is how bad and poor it was, perhaps the second half is better hence all these good reviews out there. Comedy really needs a shot in the arm.
The Hangover Part II (2011)
Very similar to the first
Hard to write a full review for this movie, as so many other reviews summed it up very nicely. If you loved the original movie you will like this, but not as much. If the first wowed you, then this will satiate you a little bit, but you will leave the screen feeling hungry and a little short-changed. The main problem being the similarities to the first one. There were some very funny moments, some shocking, but the viewer does feel that perhaps the film could have been filmed in a different manner to the first, perhaps following the guys through the whole night - crazy and messed up and it ending in a crazy and messed up fashion not a picture perfect wedding on a Thai beach. The writers will really have to try and come up with a different concept for Hangover III, I have no doubt there will be one as this has coined a quarter of a billion already, so the popularity remains. I remember watching the first movie and laughing my head off, this time it was polite chuckles rather than full guffaws. I hope No 3, isn't embarrassed titters. Overall, a 6 for a good effort but strayed close to mediocre.
