QT; one of the best but this needs to be put to rest
21 November 2019
This film is crowded with an incredible talented cast and seemed prior to attempting to watch it, with a director like QT and the time period and plot, it couldnt possibly go wrong. Maybe even be up there with his best. However, a half hour into the movie, I began noticing that while the camera work and directing is the DNA of Tarantino, the writing was off. I kept hoping things would tie together or he would instill his story devices that make him so brilliant, but to no avail I was terribly disappointed. Though, that's not to say that there is absolutely great acting throughout this movie but it is very underwhelming in my opinion and should have been capable of much, much more! I've never not enjoyed a QT film and sadly this is the first. Everything seems so scattered and even the infamous amazing dialogue was not up to his high standards. This just missed its mark but I would still suggest anyone still see this movie and experience it for the great directing and acting.

Home run

I think those that saw this movie in the 90's would give it a much higher rating than anyone that has seen it recently; the 90s nostalgia and warm heart story is everlastingly enchanting. It may be dated but it's one of those family movies that hits home and deserves such a high rating from me because it's the type of movie that I can always watch and feel happy. It's not the best movie make no mistake, though, a movie that I can watch over and over is arguably considered one of the best for me.

Give it two episdoes to fall in love and hate the fact it's so brief and no other seasons available as you'll want more and more and more!!!

Not what your expecting in a good way! Bourdain would have loved this!
24 September 2019
With short a short synopsis, I delayed watching this show until very recently. After reading 'Kitchen Confessions', by the late great Anthony Bourdain (Parts Unknown on CNN), I asked myself, how come there's such a huge void for series offering a raw authentic view behind the scenes in the kitchen life? Other than the movie Burnt starring Bradley Cooper and the first season and done AMC series starring Ross from friends, I don't recall great content filling this void.

First, this series isn't exactly dedicated to the culture of a chef's life or how intense the world of serving is working world wide renoun star rated restaurants, well, kinda.

This show is on the caliber of series like Flesh and Bone, The Girlfriend Experience, and Mozart in the jungle. Though these shows are entirely different, they share the same kind of unniverse and platform; STARZ, except for Primes Mozart.

Sweet bitter is very engaging and each episode ends too quickly as you want it to continue much longer since each grows as the minutes go by with intrigue, same with the seasons. The lead is very seductive and likable as shes so amiable and graceful. We know nothing about her history for half the first season, as it remains intriguing to learn who she was before moving to NY and what kind of life she led. I was very surprised to read the negative reviews and felt like I watched a different show. Our first impression of her is she's moved to a city, NYC, that seems like it's the last place for her.

She works in NYC best notable restaurant owned by the great actor from House of Cards (the author Francis employed to write the book), and his onscreen presence captures the restuarants tone so well. The behind the scenes look is always compelling and portrays how difficult it is to be a server in upscale places.

But

This show is less about plot, and more about characters. I personally dont give a damnas like as the writing is great! And thus it is. It's a series that naturally grows letting the characters aet the pace in their actions and decisions first. This series is massively underrated and a 7 on here is just comical!

I have a high standard when it comes to investing my time in a series and these days not many shows Wow me or making me binge like a few years ago. This is very addicting and the reason I added the names kd the above shows, is because if you liked any of them, you will surely like this one.

Dismiss the low rating and negative comments. But then not people appreciate these kind of unique and very different shows.

Vis a vis (2015–2019)
10/10
One of the best international series and best thriller
13 September 2019
Along with the best foreign series like Borgen, Dark, The Fall, etc. Vis a Vis (Locked Up) belong with the best of them. It's creator also created the Netflix original Money Hiest, which is also an explosive series.

Vis a Vis offers viewers a series that consists of incredible compelling and always captivating series. With the lead, a beautiful talented actress sent to prison as a result of a relationship with a man, she finds herself surrounded by the BEST villains in any series. The ensemble is out of this world. The most hated characters are so convincingly evil and induce so much malice, your stomach will churn.

But the most hated characters is what makes this show thrive and I admit, I may hate them for their savagery, but I love them at the same time because they're so 3D. There's so much character growth.

This series made me stop watch Wentworth because that series after consuming this whole shows three seasons, made Wentworth seem so lukewarm in comparison and wasn't able to scratch that itch Vis a Vis does. OITNB shouldnt even be in the same sentence as both are two very different shows.

If you want a prison series more like OZ, that is very very dark. You'll fall in love with a lot of chatacters and the subtitles aren't even noticable after the first episode. I can't urge you enough to go to Netflix and binge the three seasons offered as the fourth arrives September 24th and I can't wait!

Unlike other prison series, this isnt one filled with all the tropes. It's a cause and effect as events and actions occur inside the prison to our lead that effects life outside of the prison walls resulting in making her family's life never the same as they resort to a different life themselves and do things they never imagined.

Love, loss, tragedy, trust, loyalty, betrayal, madness, sexual predators in authoritative positions; but a prison filled with all females that display how strong a women is when she is forced to rely on herself to survive a life from day to day.

This show will grab you and suck you into this world as it's so intoxicating and tremendously captivating. A show that causes one to say. Did that just happen?" Twists and turns at a whiplash speed.

Without a doubt 10/10

The Office (2005–2013)

Threat level midnight
20 August 2019
Michael Scott. Steve Carroll. It's hard to distinguish incredible actors in sitcoms and comedies, but this is one show that demonstrates how talented Caroll is and how wide his range also is by now. One cannot love Scott without loving Caroll who created his different version that David Brent of the BBC original.

This show is so compulsively able to be rewatched due to Michael Scott as each one of us fall in love with his character, especially with all his imperfections.

But without the ensemble, Michael Scott would lack all the historical episodes he made our guts ache. My personal favorite in the background is Stanley. How genius of a casting choice. But then Jim Halpert may be just as genuis as Steve Carroll as Jim is infamous for the perfect timing of looking at us to make the scene all the more awkward. Somenting Scott and him do the best.

I'm not sure there was a more heartwarming scene then Michael and Heidi proposal. Jim pranking Dwight, i.e. the magic lagoons or beans as Dwitght waters the four plants and then Jim replaced them with full grown trees.

Is there a more tortured character than Toby? In a scene in which Robert California listed Toby's name on the left side of the paper, "the winners". Toby announces at the table in the restaurant as they're celebrating, that he needs to excuse himself and he was never here because hes so conditioned at this point from years of Michael's abuse.

Stanley's glaring at Andy's back as he speaks to Erin at reception saying do not look at Stanley I accidentally filled in his sudoku.

What always appealed to me though, was how the show crossed the line and seemed fearless. In what consider the office as a cringe inducing show, I find it so refreshing that off colored jokes were inlcuded. It is my favorite comedy ever, and one I compare shows to capturing its atmosphere or tone. Many comedies have been born because of the #inspiration of this. The mockementary style filming is another character on it's own and a device I feel is underused in comedies today.

The office featured one of the best ensembles with comedy's following trying to feature stellar ensembles realizing after nine years of the office, it's the characters created that will give the show its run for the money. No other comedy since has been able to create a character as significant as Michael Scott to lead a show.

The office is a series much like friends is for a lot of people, that is simply part of your life as we incorporate it into our lives each year upon a rewatch knowing it will provide a warm fuzzy comfy world in which we're able to retreat from reality and escape to Dunder Mifflin.

Mindhunter (2017– )

Underwhelmed. This show is capable of being incredible.
20 August 2019
If this series was an HBO original, I wonder if it would recieve such hype and user reviews lauding it a brilliant series.

Surely, Ed Kemper was the highlight of s1, but in season two, I'm reminded again how much more this show can be capable of doing but playing it safe.

This show should absolutely be much more intriguing given what it sets out to do, but the audience feels content with the results. The era in history demands a series to capture a much more thrilling, suspenseful, and riveting show. I'm not sure Mindhunter succeeds on this level.

Sure, it's a good show in all fairness. But challenge it, really, and it then is very underwhelming featuring characters that aren't fleshed out. In fact, if Finchers name wasnt included with this show and capture his atmosphere tone and color, I would be less excited about it.

Actually, speaking of Fincher. This could have been what the movie Seven was captured into a series revolving around so many intriguing and fascinating subjects and material.

I understand what this show set out to do. It succeeded in some ways, but always felt flat to me with a much more better storytelling failed to incorporate.

This series is going over many viewers heads. They just don't get it
20 August 2019
Before you watch this show, bear in mind that it's a black comedy featuring dead pan humor that very witty fueled by incredible dialogue that can only compete with fellow HBO series Veep.

This series also features the best ensemble imo. It is a gem that should be celebrated but unfortunately here, I'm finding some viewers commenting on disliking characters, et cetera. This series captures characters as say The Office did. Actors that execute their characters so impressively and know exactly how they're supposed to be portrayed.

Each character is very 3D and represents this particular life flooded with people that are terrible people. This show is a reflection and parody one can argue. It is easy to dislike every character and see the flaws in them.

But the point is to see what makes them so essential to the show and creates many laughs. Do not take this show seriously. It is not meant to be. Watch it realizing this is a dark comedy with characters brought to life so well.

This show is critically acclaimed for a reason and has the opportunity for a long run. This is also the most unique comedy airing and I beg, if you tapped out after a couple the first time, revisit this show expecting to laugh in moments of drama. It's a new kind of comedy and is groundbreaking.

The bar is raised to a whole new level
22 June 2019
Two years ago when this show debuted, I was absolutely captivated and found season one incredibly intoxicating and compelling. Many shows try to capture this series theme, but many fail to execute it as well as Dark does.

I believe Dark does it so well because the characters are so emotionally grounded. The writer's didn't overlook the shows characters and have special places for each one.

For those like me that love the concept of time travel and paradoxes, this show is like a stimulant to the brain and tickles your mind. It's mental munchies and also serves as mental foreplay.

Season 2 finally scratches that itch at the roof of your mouth that for so long, your tongue couldn't quite reach.

This season proves that the writer's know exactly what their doing. The way this show deals with the "time-travel paradox" is utterly flawless. I realize how hard it is to get it right and not have so many plot holes and terrible plot devices and that's why I appreciate this show so much.

Dark is on another level than anything I've ever seen before!

This series is a masterpiece, there's no doubt about it. It provides an incredible reward for viewers that love celebral shows that refuse spoon feeding the audience and also satisfies the viewer by addressing the questions you have by answering them, and then raising many more with twist after twist, reveal after reveal.

I now fear I will fall into the inevitable show hole because really, where is there to go from here; devouring this exceptional series. It raises the standard of quality among TV and sits amongst the top.

I'm in love with the storytelling and how it engages us to think about all the connections and guess what's what, and even if you may predict something, the show then blows your mind.

I applaud the writers of this series for not only getting this theme so right, but imo, also perfecting it and upping the ante for shows to come. I only hope this show serves as inspiration for creators.

After season 2, Dark has officially become one of my favorite shows and bravo to Germany for producing this groundbreaking hit.

Those that have doubts that it will not live up to the quality of season 1, fear not! The second season has a faster pace and expands on what's so very intriguing. That's what this show does so well: it's intriguing as ever to the very end!

After witnessing how well the writers deal with every loose thread this season, I have great confidence that they will meet, my now, high expectations with the third and final season and tie it up nicely for fans satisfaction.

An emotional speedball
15 June 2019
I applaud both Cooper and GaGa for totally immersing themselves into these two characters, making this film feel so, so authentic and real.

For two hours I felt like I had stepped inside the world of the music industry and gained a perspective that was so intimate and also insightful. Sure, many people feel this story has been told, but NOT like this.

It's beautiful in all its sadness even. Bradley Cooper may have just honed in his best performance portraying Jack. I'm thoroughly impressed how he completely disappeared. And just as impressive is the fact that a music icon seemed so humble in this role and even more believable!

But the real ingredient of this sensational film is the chemistry shared between the two leads. Incredible!! Not for one second did I doubt every emotion displayed or feel the happiness and sadness. I feel like this is a love letter to musicians off the stage and a bonus for viewers to get a sneak peek of people just you and I that just happen to be in the spotlight.

And of course, the soundtrack. Jesus christ, is it incredible! You will get the chills throughout this entire film I promise.

One of the most moving movies I've had the pleasures of seeing recently. I find myself deeply intoxicated by the world I was just living in and wish I never left when the credits rolled.

Bravo to everyone involved, even Andrew Dice Clay.

Bad Blood (2017– )
6/10
Lifetime channel
13 June 2019
Imo when a mafia or organized crime story is going to be presented today, it better bring the goods.

While Bad Blood is watchable, that's it really. Just watchable. Kim Coates is brilliant, especially given what he does with the writing and it makes me wonder, if he was not casted, would this show then be unbearable?

I felt like this was a misfire and was capable of being great! It just felt like the writing was way too loose and not authentic enough, but I admit, I'm spoiled from some of the best mafia content ever: Gomorrah, Sopranos, Peaky Blinders, Narcos, etc.

It just felt extremely vanilla and a poor mans attempt at a goodfellas----wait, no! That's not fair. Poor mans attempt at Narcos.

If you're an avid fan of these shows and all the best mafia offerings, I imagine you will be disappointed. However, if you're just looking for a show to pass the time, you just might like it.

Maybe I'm being too hard on it but I think that's fair with the standard of quality this genre has created.

Overlooked Gem
12 June 2019
I'm genuinely appalled that this brilliant show has been canceled, even by now with all the great TV that has been canceled in the past. This show fires on all cylinders with whip smart and witty dialogue, fresh comedy, and an excellent leading performance!

I thought for sure this series would last for at least four seasons, especially with just 13 episodes in each season.

It just feels new. A refreshingly new comedy with a imperfect protagonist written perfectly. The kids are dynamite actors and the back and forth is another highlight of many.

Unfortunately there only will be two seasons, but you'll be addicted quickly--I know I was. This is pure binge material that should be devoured like a gluten.

Speedball!
25 May 2019
I hate reviewing my favorite TV series because I can never do it justice.

I just rewatched all three seasons for the third time and this time I was struck with sadness upon the conclusion. Of course because the series ended, but that's not really why. It's such a tragedy that this was on Direct TV and not a more available streaming platform or known cable channel. Because of this and the major lack of marketing, Kingdom never reached their intended viewers. While it did reach those of us who had our ear to the ground and found the glorious reviewa and heard all the rumbles raving the acting and explosive drama.

This is an inside out version of Friday Night Lights. A dark and gritty opposite. Filled with adrenaline and imploding violence ethat quenches the viewers thirst for a top tier series.

While Frank Grillo is phenomenal, I have to give it to Jonathan Tucker for his incredible portrayal of Jay. Episode afree episode, I felt the gut punches life threw these characters---and what amazing characters they're for all their imperfections.

This show is beyond an addicting binge watch. It's simply a masterpiece that just didn't have the right stage but due to loyal fans, a spotlighted searched it and found it.

If you're an avid TV watcher and feel proud to have seen TVs all-time best series, you've probably heard about this series, but I believe (with only 46 reviews!!!??) that they're a massive amount of people oblivious that a gem awaits them.

I sincerely hope someone is reading this that is interested in maybe watching this series. God bless you because this is the one show I would pick to watch over for the first time.

This series is an emotional head-on car wreck. It's an emotional speedball plain and simple. Sure, there's fighting in the cage, but this show is really about fighting outside the cage. Fighting something no one can see. Life and fate. Tragedy. Dont misconstrue me, like the Sopranos, this show really knows how to be funny ala Jonathan Tucker (justified and westworld).

Please, do yourself a HUGE favor, watch this show. Right out of the gate you will be hooked.

Con: it only lasted 3 seasons

Pro: It went out on top!

This show is what TV should be measured against and executed!!

Best show of this century, imo.

All American (2018– )

Field goal
18 May 2019
I had no expectations when I entered this show and left appalled at the impact it left me. This is a great show with terrific acting BUT this is NOT a Friday Night Lights. While the comparison is impossible to make, if you really think back on FNL, yuh pull remember that it wasn't a great show but a incredible series that tugged at all the right feelings. And it did so organically. Not for the sake of adding drama for entertainment. There was a foundation and the characters were beautifully molded and shaped. Kyler Chandler was born with his bravado.

All American remains a very good show, though. It fits today's era, and to be honest, on a platform like the CW, it blows away whatever judgement assumed before consumption.

This is a show that should be seen. Not one that needs to be seen, however. 7/10. Perhaps if Peter Berg and co., was involved in this series, it would have that gritty down to earth tone that made me relate to every character.

This series is as underrated as it is, so I hate the idea that people make come here and be underwhelmed by a 6.8, however that seems to be the general consensus here.

Well, its wrong! This series is amazing! An anthology that returns to old episodes featuring actors that you will be very familiar with that perform a stunning job in the 30 minutes they have (in that specific episode).

Please read the professional reviews of season three and you will see across the board they're all positive and shine on this show. The creator holds no punches, so it is rather raw, so to speak. Its engaging, hilarious, and real! Watch it

One of the best series; a real gem
23 March 2019
The high quality writing that made season 1 a masterpiece took 3 years to write a follow up to dazzle what fans of season found truly truly magical!!!! Please rewatch s1 bc its better the second time and a straight binge makes this a masterpiece! So many things happened s1, plus the character growth was tremendous! The school shooting was deeply planned and not a random muppet show. The writers did not dumb down and were confident in the second season. I love reading what big fans this show has made despite it being criminally underrated. I cant think of a better thriller and intriguing series! Every moment is unpredictable and such a thriller!

Jason Isaac controlled the tempo and played his character with vigor and conviction. Hes the real MVP!

The OA (2016–2019)
10/10
Rewatch made it very good to a gem
23 March 2019
It's been 3 years since this series debut in 2016 and it was my favorite show of the year that I did not see coming! Readying to see the much anticipated second season, I decided to binge s1 again.

I first rated it an 8 out of 10. Upon my second watch, I didnt plan to, but because of the tones conviction and pace, absolutely captivating and riveting, I ended up watching 8 hours straight! It's fair to say I got the most out of the debut series and picked up more the second go as expected. What I didnt expect was for me to accept the ending soweep, which the first time, threw me off. This is the best series produced by Netflix without a doubt along with Dark pound for pound. Its soaking with intrigue and it constantly flirts with the biggest mystery that facisnates us all: after life or death.

I feel like I overlooked the captors relation the first time, not seeing how incredible their arc was too. Homer's tough will that drives him and us to learn what the scientist (lovely Jason Isaacs), somehow at the time there was a theme that minimized the captors abilities to experience death and come back. It resonated with me much more the second time and made for insanely tense stressful watching. Chewing your fingernails viewing.

There was something missing from the first season compared to when it came out 3 years ago, not sure if it was edited but there is a scene with Homer as a quarterback in another life. I think it was towards the end. It's been awhile so I'm not sure exactly what was displayed. But after completing this nearly flawless season 1, I was left with a huge question of why arent there more people watching this???????? This is a gem. On the cusp of season 2, I'm not sure deciding to do another was a great idea because of how perfect this was. Sure, no closure and open ended questions, but I'll be sadly upset if s2 tarnishes this magical embarking series.

OA is a beautiful natural actress and has her mind and craft behind the camera too. I won't lie and say Jason Isaac's made this a amazing series into a gem. His impact heavily effected the fine result as the camera is so vulnerable for Isaac's tempo in any character he plays. He intoxicates each role he plays and landing him this character made this a heavyweight market. In fact, all of the cast was just superb in this not-one-weak-episode first season.

The pacing is dynamite and it's so tight and keeps it constantly thrilling while always having a lingering mystery to it. Life after death is captured so well in this production and executed effortlessly that this should have a cult following, so I beg those to rewatch the first season because in the 3 year absence, there is a ton of rewatch value to be had and it's one of those shows that's better than you thought and way better than it sounds.

Anyone who doesn't give this 8/10 at least, is watching TV wrong! The OA is a 10/10. Deduct points if you must because of an ending that was set into motion 2 episodes away, where as my first viewing I felt it was random. Best watch again. As for the hand signs, I'm confident that writing this good will consist of all of that now streaking in season 2.

Massive intrigue I love it!!!!

Youtube's best original with Cobra Kai

William-lead6 bravo for your review!! You nailed perfectly.

After hearing positive rumblings, I decided to give Youtube a free trial just to see this series. I must say, I just finished Sex Education--which is flawless and enchanting, so I needed something to hold me over and keep me out of a show hole.

I love violent content. I'm 30, so it is instilled in me from the content in cinema growing up. Right from the very start this show grabs you along the ride for a coming of age series. Each episode, with ten total, is about 36 minutes. They each are paced just right with the perfect tone to a FUN viewing experience. Cobra Kai was so great so I'm hard pressed in saying this, but Wayne is the superior Youtube Original among the best 3, impulse being the third.

With a couple of reviews thus far I'm not suprised being the streaming platform is more favored for live TV for the cord cutters, but I'm not going to suggest to anyone to try Youtube for a free 30 trial, but I did because the worst that can happen was I wouldnt like it and I cancel immediately and get my money back. You're right, I still am once I explore a little, but this platform is not for me, however this show absolutely is.

Do yourself a favor and don't miss watching what is among this years (month) best shows to come out. It's a wild and thrilling experience. FYI, the production is top notch, which I appreciate such things and it shows me Youtube is headed in the right direction. Enjoy. Check out Sexual education it's the best comedy that feels like a John Hughes world. Sorry to add that.

First Man (2018)

Director wasnt born then
12 January 2019
I dont truly believe that it's not possible to make the film an Amerivan Icon like Armstrong deserves unless you saw it yourself, that would be am idiotic thing to say, especially given the immense amount of movies that feature directors filming Schindler's List with so much effect! BUT

At the same age as this amazing director, I can feel the overwhelming difference immediately pour from what every American should feel when talking about Neil and the moon landing---and only patriotic reviews from people who were alive then have those feelings just by reading the review of a couple of people (that werent disrespectful).

It is the landmark of the 20th century! Theres tragedies, like the Titanic, great depression, holocaust, bomb dropped, pearl harbor, JFK, Martin Luther king, not to mention the wars---theres so much tragic events that are easily remembered and I think sometimes it can become a dark cloud covering that giant bright circle Lunar rock hanging in the sky. The fact that a human being---not a Robot, walked on that thing saying those famous words and stuck an AMERICAN flag on the moon----thats absolutely incredible and the best improbability in history that I can think of that an american conquered!

That's big stuff. From the director of Whiplash and La La Land, when I heard about the production underway, I thought 'what a great choice because he has a way of capturing human embodiment. Raw emotions.' But, the thing is music was always playing or it was a charming scene.

One gentlemen expressed it fine, saying the book portrayed Armstrong as an obsessive man for flight but the one I spent over two hours with was not the man I've done research on---an american hero but a man plagued by inner demons.

Ryan Gosling is actually an actor that I always say he did an outstanding job, but I found him miscast or in this case, perhaps casted as the version DC was looking for. Just a sad man. Gosling is best polishing his strengths when hes confident and in his comfort zone. Not having eyes carrying the weight of a burden all the time it seemed.

Overall, I suppose this is maybe too harsh, but I think the one and only man that could have caught this task is CLINT EASTWOOD 5 years ago among others. The review I read of that person reminded me that my mom was ten when he touched the rocky sand. The best generation imo got to see something today we're all about advanced tech and bots to Mars but havent ever been back to the moon. If I saw a moon landing, I would make the passionate movie I could. Yeah, I could watch it now and study it, but it doesnt represent all that we stood for then.

This isnt bad directing, it's bad storytelling imo.
