Cheesy horror that's hard to tell if it's a parody or not
15 March 2020
This isn't really my genre but having given this a go, I came out a bit confused. Part of me felt this was just an over dramatic low budget horror and post of me thought it was a passable horror parody.

Due to the acting and scenery the film reminded me a lot of the TV show lost but sadly it isn't anywhere near as well acted, Sometimes this film was almost like a real life Scooby Doo film the acting and sorry was so bad.

It's quite harmless fun for a horror, just expect a classic

A lesson in how to tell a true story with over sensationalising
15 March 2020
There should be more stories like this told and told just like this. It is patiently told without being over dramatic and shows just how much of a struggle it is to fight major corporations.

Mark Gruffalo is superb in the main role and acts it superbly. The film is perfectly placed and it really gets you engrossed and bought in to the story.

I hope this film leads to others like it: deep, engrossing, well told and not dumbed down, true stories.

You know what you are getting but it's still entertaining
14 March 2020
This is a standard feel good film and it's not hard to work out how is going to go and how it's going to end, but that doesn't really detract from the enjoyment.

The was not as much action as I expected but there was more depth and better acting than I expected as well.

All in all this isnt a high brow, complicated, Oscar winning movie but it is a decent feel good film that works for adults and kids.

A different story that gets better as it goes on
14 March 2020
This is quite a novel story for a kids film and uses unusual heroes. At first I want sure it was going to work that will but as the film went on and was really rescued a bit by a very unexpected and good ending.

The story is quite fast paced and the world it creates is unusual but works well. The animation is excellent.

Although the film is aimed at kids it does work for adults, there are plenty of laughs for them as well and it stands on its own as a good movie.

Emotional but 30 minutes too long and just too obvious
12 March 2020
There are good parts to this film and the story is definitely one worth telling but it sadly doesn't quite hit the mark. However I did feel it maybe wasn't aimed at men, which may be the reason it wasn't for me.

I felt it was just a bit dragged out as the story lacked some depth despite the subject matter and would have been a better film has it been a bit shorter. I felt myself thinking "come on, get on with it" a few times in the film.

Also the film lacked much of a twist, there were a few but none were exactly major shocks and everything that happened was virtually telegraphed.

It's worth a watch but don't have high hopes

One for the purists
21 February 2020
I am not a massive fan of period dramas but I will give any film a try and write often like them, however I just found this film as dull as dishwater.

To be honest the story proves that not everything great writers write is great. It's a pretty obvious film with not a great plot and very little drama.

The acting and the scenery are ok but the pace is painfully slow.

Mildly amusing but overall a bit lame
20 February 2020
Given the cast and the franchise, this film could and should have been a lot better. Jim Carrey is almost wasted as a mix of the normal Jim Carrey character and the guy from lazy town, and a bit of a lackluster villian.

There are some funny parts to the film, with quite basic humour, and the story is ok but it seemed strange that as the character is one that would appeal to people up to probably middle aged, the comedy seems aimed solely at kids.

It's not terrible but overall it's a bit of a letdown.

An old school wildlife film that lacked empathy for a non American
20 February 2020
I really got the feeling that this film was aimed at the American audience who grew up with stuff like this and maybe now want their kids too as well.

Sadly, as a non American, I felt the film lacked something in its characters and I felt no real emotion or feeling for the characters at points when I really should have.

The cinematics were pretty good and the CGI was ok and probably other audiences would lap this up but it wasn't for me.

Allen recreated underwater but falls a bit short
17 February 2020
After the first half of this film I honestly thought it had been underestimated and was building to a great film, sadly that was as good as it got, as the film was sadly let down by the second half.

It did just seem a blatant attempt to recreate alien but underwater, from the clothing to the monsters. However the plot and acting feel well short of that high bar.

It's an ok film, is just a shame the ending didn't live up to the start.

So cheesy and aging a bit but still a good film
15 February 2020
I saw the 30th anniversary showing of ghost and although the CGI now looks very dated, as a whole the film stands up as a very unique and will thought out film.

It is very cheesy, with loads of glaring holes in the plot and premise, but that doesn't detract from the enjoyment.

There is some good acting in the film andalthough of its time, deserves to be called a classic.

A proper comic book film
13 February 2020
It's good to see a film based on a comic book character that is made like a comic book film without being too comic book nerdy.

The characters in this are pretty good and the plot, although a little thin, is pretty good. The pace is very good and it's full on action, pretty much all the way through, with some pretty graphic scenes along the way.

I have nothing against the all female leads and hero's but my only gripe is the "ALL the females are good and ALL the guys are bad " premise is becoming a bit cliche and maybe let the film down a bit.

Don't listen to the reviews this isn't a bad film at all
12 February 2020
Another good reminder of why I should judge for myself and not listen to reviews. This has been pushed by the critics so I was pleasantly surprised that I write enjoyed this film.

The animation is pretty good and although the storyline is not too complicated and obviously aimed very much at kids, it is ok and makes for good harmless fun. But the best thing about the film is the humour, it's very funny in places.

This film isn't an Oscar winner but it is well worth a watch.

Another reboot follows the same formula
7 February 2020
This film really does what it says on the tin: Plenty of explosions, car chases, slow motion musical montages, pretty people in skimpy outfits and comedy one liners.

It's not high brow deep thought cinema but then it's not supposed to be, it's really aimed at the masses who want all of the above.

There are some twists but they are so over the top ridiculous, even for this, that it really ruins it a bit.

However as these sort of films go, it's ok

Hard to appreciate if you have never seen or heard of Mr Rogers
6 February 2020
I realise this film must have been made for American audience who I guess see Mr Rogers as an icon but normally films cross over for other viewers, sadly this one didn't work like that.

Mr Rogers really didn't come across as a believable character, he seemed a completely over the top sickly sweet person created for TV. I can see such a person may work on American TV but not in the UK, we just didn't have people like that on TV.

It's hard to judge Tom Hanks portrayal without knowing of Mr Rogers but the while film just didn't seem real.

Good film about an ordinary guy in the wrong place at the wrong time
5 February 2020
This is a good true life story in that it is really about an ordinary guy who got caught up in a world event. The fear it could happen to any one of us.

I thought the characters were will portrayed and the story well told.

The film was a little slow, mainly in the build up, and the film a little too long but it is well worth a watch.

A good story let down by a film that didn't quite work
30 January 2020
The saddest thing about this film is that some of the characters that could have been funny and loveable came across as tedious and a bit annoying. It was very hard to get any empathy towards any of them.

The film tried to be something different and, although ok in places, it was mostly tiresome and just missed the target on a few levels.

It is ok and maybe some people will enjoy it but it just wasn't for me and I was a let down given the great story and the excellent cast.

A brilliantly unique movie with endless unseen twists and turns
24 January 2020
Its not often I go to see subtitled films but given the reviews I thought and I had to see this one and I am so glad I did.

It's fantastically different and a great story that really draws you in but never stops surprising you with a laugh or shock around every corner.

A great film and well worth anyone's time to go and see it.

Good story just some surprisingly questionable acting
24 January 2020
This film tells a good and powerful story that you would like to think of as in the past but is probably sadly still quite relevant.

I thought the story was well done if a little confusing and maybe a little slow at times. However I was surprised given the cast that some of the acting wasn't great.

Still a film very much worth seeing though.

A few laughs but otherwise a very low rent chic flick
20 January 2020
I didn't have high expectations of this film from the trailers and thankfully so. Given the cast of the film it is a shame that they were let down by what can only be described as a dreadful and totally implausible story line.

There are a few slap stick laughs and to be honest they save this film getting the lowest possible marks.

I can only think this film is aimed at female millennial audience but to be honest if it is it's an insult to them to pitch it so low.

Incredible story, incredible acting and incredible film
17 January 2020
I was blown away by this film. I didn't know too much about it before I saw it so it was an amazing surprise that it was such an outstanding film.

The plot is based on a true story that is both sad and uplifting at the same time. I thought the directing and acting were top notch and it is really brought home when you see the photos of the real life people at the end.

I am shocked more hasn't been made of this film, it really is a contender for film of 2020 already.

A different and brilliant way of filming makes for a fantastically intense movie
16 January 2020
Most war films are intense but this goes to a whole new level in its own way. The film being set in one long shot is very unique but works brilliantly.

The pace of the movie is incredible it goes past in the blink of an eye and at the end the first thing I thought was 'I have to see that again'.

Because of the pace of the film it doesn't allow for a lot of character development outside of the main characters but that doesn't detract at all.

A great film and a brilliant bit of directing.

Interesting true story just a bit slow
12 January 2020
It's interesting the history you pick up watching unusual films like this, especially as a non American and it's gives then an aspect that makes them very worth seeing.

I felt it was a good plot and reasonably acted, with maybe a little too much over acting at times that was unnecessary.

The film is reasonably short but I still felt it dragged in places, maybe again trying to be over dramatic.

With a watch if you have the spare time but maybe don't go out of your way.

Great concept and a funny film
9 January 2020
It's excellent to see a film that is really unique in concept and delivery, especially when it contains great dark humour, which seems rare today.

The film has a good story and some of the acting is excellent in it. There are plenty of twists and turns and there is constant humour with some great characters.

I felt at times it was a little slow and some of the humour a little obvious and at times childish but still a film very much worth seeing.

A return to form for Guy Ritchie with a darker gangster movie
2 January 2020
This isn't lock stock or snatch but they are a high bar and this is still a great film. Ritchie almost made it another ten out of ten but this just lacked some of the brilliant humour and unforgettable characters of his big hits.

The film has a good plot with plenty of twists and turns, and the pace is very good. The cast of actors isn't let down and there are some brilliant performances, not least by Hugh Grant.

It is a film that warrants a second watch and it's great to see Ritchie back to near his best as he does the London Gangster movie like no one else.

Stick too close to the stage play to work as a film
29 December 2019
I think of you have seen the stage play, which is really just a collection of poems and songs put together, then you are far more likely to like this. If you have not seen the stage show it must be baffling, as there is no attempt to make the story into a film.

Even given this, there are some pretty disappointing performances. Given the greatness of some of the songs and some of the singers there was a recipe for an amazing soundtrack but sadly it fell well short of that.

It is worth a watch if you understand it is just a collection of songs and some dancing but sadly don't expect the blockbuster it was meant to be.
